Hello all, I am returning to this great sport, and was hoping some people can give me some ideas on building a "building table" I just purchased a hollow door today,but it warped in the sun. I have used them before,but I am very unhappy right now and think I will try another method. Hopefully something that doesnt cost a small fortune. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks, Jim

I have several but this one my daughter-in-law picked up for me at a secound hand store. They are usually pretty flat and I just added MDF board and dry wall plus I have 1/4" glass top for it. I would have gotten thicker glass but mucho $$$$ unless you stumble across a bargain.

Thanks guys, I took the hollow door back today and got a solid door,(very heavy) put it over 1in thick foam insulation and shimmed the underside to flat, seems to be good. I will get back into the game with a Fancherized twister.Hopefully I will be able to regain what I lost in a short period.

I use a solid door as well with a sheet of drywall on top.

I've been using the boards that Tower has, which looks a lot like the Guillow's one. I also bought a roll of the clear plastic they offer as plan protector. Has worked very well for me.

I have it screwed to a sheet of veineer coated MDF wiht some stringers below that works well. Takes pins well.

I recently bit the bullet and purchased a solid door and skinned it with metal to use magnets. Till then I used a hollow door with ceiling tiles and glass (depending on what I was doing). Haven't looked back. Love the metal top with magnets. Really makes building simpler since the magnets act as the third and fourth hands.

I really like the metal top and magnet idea John! I bit the bullet too a few years ago. I got a 7'6" by 44" solid core door with a half inch thick tempered glass top (It helps to have a good buddy who is in the window and door business!). Kind of big, I guess, but it is nice to have room for two projects at once and still have room for

!

I love being able to glue jigs and fixtures to the glass top. Cleans up nicely, seems to brighten up the room and the new ship looks great reflected in the glass!

Besides, now that I have a dedicated bench, I no longer build wings on the glass coffee table. (Significantly cuts down on
