My Bell Crank Mount
« on: February 26, 2015, 07:39:48 PM »
Been working on the planes and can't believe it took me most of the day to do the bell crank and getting it mounted.   This is on/in one of the designs of one of my heroes.  Got the wing tip guide in also.   Went to  my box for a bell crank and couldn't find them.  Now I have this one done they will probably show up.   Had these Perfect 3 inch bell cranks laying around and I know they are not strong enough by themselves.   So I doubled them up.  4-40 allen head bolts.   1/16 tubing for the lead outs to go through.   Should last as long as I will.   When I get further along will post pics as the fuse is framed up waiting for the wing and tail assembly.

Need to get fingers to hit right keys. jeh

Doc, it's a good technique but do you have a plain bearing surface for the leadout loops to run on?

I would worry about threads cutting through the 1/16" tubing fairly quickly if you don't.

I remember Windy doing the ends of his carbon fibre bellcranks in a similar way but he used small shoulder screws which provided the plain bearing surface.

John,

You don't really need the brass tubing. A simple eyelet is fine. Do the ends any way you want, but we just did the ends the old school way, with a loop, pull and crimp on the copper tube.

I've never had one come apart as far back as 62 when we were all active. Did a great deal of flying back then. I wasn't the only modeler that did his bellcrank this way, I was just the first.

Glad it's catching on.

I mean, where would stunt be without ripping off Chuckie? He also apparently can beam thoughts into people's heads,  since somehow we all managed to rip off *someone we never heard of until a few years ago* and has never done anything at all in stunt. I suppose that just makes his genius even more impressive!
