Title: Brodak Oriental (kit)
Post by: steve pagano on April 06, 2007, 09:48:27 PM
Hello everybody;

     I'm refinishing a Brodak Oriental for my cousin, who has become ill
and i was wondering if some one could tell me what a good ready-to-fly weight should be ? Also i would like to suprise him by finishing the plane in the graphics he fell in love with when he saw them in a magazine. I'm hopping some has seen the plane he's talking about. It's a r/c plane done in dark blue with yellow stars on the wings, kind of like Paul walkers mustang but in blue and yellow.

Any pics would greatly help!

                                              thanks
                                                     -Steve

I haven't built my Oriental kit yet, but my Oriental ARF weighed 43 oz. total (including tail weight) with Brodak 40 and stock muffler.
The ARF uses aluminum gear instead of the wire in the kit.  Also, I needed about 1.5 oz. tail weight to get CG right.

Hope this helps a little.

To echo Jim, I *think* some where from 40 to 45 ounces should be fine all up ready to fly.

I've built (5) of them...(1) @ 44 oz. , (2) @ 42 oz. and (2) @ 40 oz. each with various powerplants. The 40 oz. flew significantly better than the others.

Hi Steve

The RC plane may have been a Laser 200 early version, before it went to red. Sorry I do not have a picture of one handy.

Steve: My ARF oriental with L&J Fox 35 and tongue muffler and a few bugs on the leading edge weights 39 oz. It needed no tail weight and I have 3/4 oz tip weight. It was built completely stock except for the hinges and it flys great.
