Decided To Build A HOBO!
« on: August 29, 2013, 12:25:37 AM »
I think it's time for me to get in the groove, and build an airplane that will further my flying abilities. Last year, the HOBO appeared in Model Aviation, and I knew then, that one was in my future! It fits all of the parameters that I need to "get with the program" for honing my skill in the air.
Currently, I'm flying a Super Ringmaster, the S-6, a Goldberg Shoestring, a .15 size plane I "whipped-up", a bashed-up ARF Nobler that I recently converted to a profile fuselage, and a myriad of 1/2A planes I made-up. All of these planes have their own manners, but I need something conventional and well designed for my level of ability. I think the HOBO will be perfect. I will build light and straight. Other than the Model Aviation article, are there any other HOBOS out there flying? I'm eager to get started, and will be choosing balsa for it tomorrow. This will be fun!
I will build it. It's gonna be really difficult to find me with an ARF. I know every bit of my airplane!

Doug, you will love the Hobo!  Super design, easy to build, will give a better motor run than any profile, and it is VERY capable of performing the full pattern nicely!  Tom Niebuhr sells the short kit, full kit, or just the ribs, if that will help.  His laser cutter is perfect, by the way.  We flew ours with the Double Star 40 plain bearing, and with Fox 35's.  Both power the ship very well.  Like always, keep it light, not too much paint, and you will have a fine stunter.

Thanks Bill! I'll have to look that up; it would certainly decrease the build-time, to have the parts cut and sharp! I will put a Fox .35 on it. Lew works them over, here, and he is doing one for me. I would like to have this flying ASAP! It is already getting dark sooner. I hope the parts are within my budget...

I thought Tom N. had a forum here, down in the vendor's area. Nope! Then, I looked on Garf's "List of CL Links"...not there. Google did find Tom's website (Blue Sky Models), but the Hobo isn't even mentioned. I guess you'll have to look Tom up in the Member's area and send him an email.  ???  Steve
