Black APC prop
« on: January 11, 2020, 03:34:51 PM »
Folks;

Here is a shot of an 8x4 APC prop given the Rit Dye treatment. It took several hours in the juice per the directions on the packet, but am happy with the outcome. Might have read about the technique on this board, but not sure. Whoever suggested it, good kudos to ya!

When I did it I put the pot on "simmer". Hot, vapors coming off but no boiling.

A buddy of mine showed up with a really cool prop once. It had wood laminations just like a full scale barnstormer prop from back in the day. Then he told me to look closer. It was a scimitar APC that he had dolled up with woodgrain and glue lines. It was pretty slick. I can't recall if he dyed it wood tone before starting on the wood grain painting or not. It definitely belonged on a scaley plane....

APC does make black props check some of the RC providers to see what is available. You just might be surprised.

I don't think it makes much difference, if you follow safe practices and never reach around a spinning prop.
Get behind it before doing anything.

I see guys taching from the front and reaching back to adjust the needle - scary dangerous on two fronts.

I've dyed lots of APC props using just Rit in hot water and 5 minutes or less soak time.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.
I wouldn't take her to a dog fight even if she had a chance to win.
