Epoxy Basics
« on: September 09, 2014, 11:11:20 AM »
I  use little epoxy.  A few high stress joints, laminating ply to balsa,  & laminating fiberglass in a high stress area.

I found this generally instructive & a few good new techniques.  I like the chisel sticks!  y1

Now I want to build another boat!  My "Wee Lassie II" canoe is just not big enough, as I have kids now.

Very nice instruction set.  It goes into the details that the West System technical manuals are light or obtuse on.  However it is very light on technical details, and completely fails to mention using common ammonia to aid removal of amine blush.  I recommend also reviewing West systems literature (free download) or the literature to the product you choose to use.

These instructions work, as a general process, with any epoxy product line and polyester resins.  There will be alterations to the instructions based on the specific product chemistry, the fillers used (including sawdust) and the scale of the project.  Installing a wing or building a motor crutch are quite different from building a dingy, canoe, or boat, yet the principles are the same.
