Ready to go again
« on: September 03, 2007, 12:29:35 AM »
Well, my PA plane is repaired and repainted. Not a bad final look either. And the profile plane that Pat Johnston gave me (so he wouldn't be temped to fly it again) is pretty much ready to go. Just need to wrap some lines for it.

So, it's back to working on the new plane. Got the gear mostly done tonight. Just need to finish up the wheelpants and do the tail wheel gear and stuff it in the rack so I can do yet another project. Fixing and refinishing the Cobra. So much to do.

I'm really starting to like the new plane. Even have a name picked out, though it's a bit corney. Probably end up on the worst named planes thread. But I like it. The paint scheme is mostly worked out, though I'm still thinking through how I'm going to do some parts of it. It's a great time to be a CLPA flyer. I start to feel like Henry V talking to his troops on the battle field (gotta love Shakespear). Too bad we don't fly much near St. Crispin's day.  :)

Well good to hear you got the slider unslid Randy. The GB is back in one piece again, just need to put in a little more reinforcement and recover,,Tell me, why can I not crash my ugly planes? I hear you about projects. Looks like now I have to build GB two and start cutting parts for a brace of Shark 402s. I showed Jess the plans saturday and she thought it looked "cool" (I guess they still do use that word huh?)
Keep chuggin at it man, soon summer heat will be gone and the lawn will need a mowin more often.
Pasco in two weeks, wohoo, the fall run is on

Mark,

Man I wish you around here to tell me to quit doing dumb stuff. I was working on the wheel pants today and just couldn't help myself. I'm using light, thin wheel and I got concerned that I might have to change them out at some point, So I decided to set the wheelpants up allow removal so the wheels could be changed out if need be. Yeow, what  lot of work. I've got one about half done. They will split in the middle. This doesn't have canted gear. The gear goes straight through the wheel pant. So I had to made them split apart. Hopefully, they won't be too heavy, but they look to be coming out pretty light. But it is a lot of work.  A lot.

Hope to have them done by next weekend so I can then stall again and get my classic plane fixe and repainted. I'm actually starting to consider rebuilding the Novi and sending it down to Tucson with Bobby. I must be out of my mind.

Randy,, taek a deep breath and step away from the complicated design drinks...
remember the best engineering is the simplest engineering. It takes mroe thinking but less working. but hey who am I to say, look at what I build and look at what you build, I humbley bow out from further advice giving, sigh,,,,,,,

Ok so I must confess, I am scheming a jet styler of my own, I have this sweet set of cores that match my 109, they were planned for the 109 so they ahve dihedral, but,,, a jet with anhedral, now that could be cool,,,,, Se that Mig at Mcminnville,, hmmmm or maybe an F-16,,, or,,,, (Randy this is where you step in as the voice of reason and back me down)

By the way,
I didnt get to go flying today, Jessica was bored at her dads house, he went sailing (?)  Tried to talk her into going flying again, she said no,, my hear kinda sank. Then she said "I really want to start building my plane" Um stutter spit cough, I havent finished fixing the GB yet my bench is a mess, I havent cut parts, nothing. Well cant dampen the fire so what the heck , plowed a clean spot on the bench, and set her to work with the bandsaw cutting the doublers, (were making two planes) while I made a new rib template, heck she got that done to fast,, sigh, ok cut the vert and rudder,, long story short, she got half the ribs cut, and the doublers , and the rudder and vert. And really is doing a much better job than i expected her to. I actually had her start cutting ribs from some slightly heavy stock I had around figureing she would mess some up,, WRONG, I guess those are outboard ribs now huh? I gotta get to work on the GB while shes not around or she will have my workbench taken over! We have created a monster,,,,,,
(isnt it cool)

  Mark,

Since you are doing profiles, I have a Midwest Magician 35 kit if you or Jessica might be interested in tracing the parts.  I believe the plans show show everything full size as well. Let me know and I will bring it to the contest next week.  I think the Magician is one way cool looking profile.

When I get the Cardinal done I will be scratching a couple of old time Victory's, another way cool looking old timer. Will power with Tigre 51's

Hey, John, Drag Gordon with you.

I'm hoping the weather will improve a bit and I can get some flying with Pete in this weekend.

However they are definetly in the works. I actually was looking at them again this weekend. contest season is almost over and so will be my rebuild season, lol,, so if not before, the surely after?

Mark,

Returning to the regularly scheduled topic...  LL~

I got the wheel pants done today and glassed them. I got a little thin on the hollowing and thought they'd probably hold up better if fiberglassed. So that's done. Should be able to assemble it all tomorrow, Clean them up and fit them, cut the tailwheel to length (I was holding off until the main gear was done) and then get the tank made.

Then the thing goes in the rack while I fix a classic plane to send with Bobby to Tucson. Sigh... I'd rather finish the PA plane, but the classic plane  needs to be done now.

I'll post a picture when it's all ready for finish.

BYW, will there be Expert profile at Pasco? Dave Gardner said no Expert profile at the Raider Roundup.

If I recall correctly, yes there will be I think? lol, I will find out, if not its all in one pot, but I am pretty sure we have it set up that way. sorryfor jackin your thread man,, sheesh what a naughty thing for me to do,, sigh. So will they then be having one class with everyone flying together at the roundup or do the experts not get to fly profile?

Mark,

At the Roundup, it will be Sportsman only, no expert profile. So I don't need to drag the QED along.

Sheesh! now I'm jacking my own thread.  HB~>
