Title: Bench trim

 today I took the two ARFs I have, and they just don't fly quite right, and re trimmed them on the bench. Lots of flying on them, but they do strange things I can't describe. Usually in the overheads.
First I did the wing tip weight, then the CG, then the line rake by hanging it by the lead outs. I also decided to check the vertical CG using a plumb bob. Guess what?  Both were off.  This is a  first. I have checked all my other planes and these are the first two in the last three years that actually showed a tilt.  The Primary Force I was able to align by simply cutting away some wood at the lead outs. Seems my repairs got the slot too narrow and the lines were rubbing on the top, Now it hangs true.

However, on the ARC  Cardinal, I have to move the slider down about 1/16" to 1/8". It really showed up. So, the moral here is to recheck EVERYTHING after any repairs, no matter how slight.

I guess it's like any mass produced item. They are mostly OK, but stuff can slip through the inspection of No. 17.

And I was afraid that you'd painted red, white, and green stripes on your workbench... LL~  H^^ Steve

 n1  So what you're sayin' is that the bench is a character like unto you... ~^
