landing gear blocks, wing sheeting? Easiest way?
«

So one of the things I have struggled with is the bottom wing sheeting and cutting around the landing landing gear blocks.
The blocks are glued in and are about 1/16 proud of the wing.
How do you deal with it and make it accurate? Over the plans? multiple small pieces? or trim and fit?

I simply measure and transfer those numbers over to the balsa sheeting. I guess you could lay down paper in place of the sheeting, mark the paper, cut it out and lay that over your sheeting. ...gene

I use Bob Hunt's method. He's posted a great overview here:

Although Bob's post mainly focuses on foam wing installation, his approach to built up wings is similar.

I set the blocks with 4 2-56 blind nuts even with the plywood half ribs and sheet over them. Then I cut out a 1/8" smaller section than the block and replace it with a 1/32 plywood covered by a 1/32 balsa cap cover plate held by 4 small bolts with tapered heads. That way my gear mount doesn't become a VG where I don't want it.
