My, Mr Whitely's Shoestring Stunter
« on: February 04, 2009, 09:55:56 AM »
Mr Randy Powell,

I need your advice on this plane. I have all the frame work done and put in place. She weighs out at 27 ounces, that is without the engine, (will be a double star 61 RE) no tank, no weights or wheels, just completed frame. My question, the paint scheme on your shoestring stunter, how much weight did it add to your frame work? I know paint scheme can vary but I was looking for a ball park figure. I believe my frame work weight is okay but if not I would rather lighten her up now rather than try to do it later. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Thank You
Gary

If you want details from the man, go to members index and do a search for Bob Whitely.  He is a gentleman and will not bite your head off if you keep him fed. LL~ LL~ LL~  In fact one year I bent his ear for awhile waiting for guys to show up and fly at Tuscon.  His is very helpful.   DOC Holliday

Thanks Doc,

I have meant Bob several times at the Golden State Contest. You're correct he's a great person and can be very helpful. I've just spoken with Randy on paint issues and he has alway given great answers but I will ask Bob about the weight of his Shoestring Stunter.

Thank You
Gary

GAry,

My Shoe is, of course, smaller than the one that Mr. (please don't hurt me) Whitely designed. Only about 600 squre inches. From frame to ready to fly added about 8oz. (dope base and colors, catalyzed polyurethane top coat), 2 of that was the top coat.

Thank you Randy, I'm trying to get a lighter plane to play with. I just couldn't remember how much weight to add for a great paint job, so I better add two more ounces for my paint work. I appreciate the help, Gary ( I was worried about the engine I'm going to use, heard pros and cons. Wrote Mr. Tom about the engine and he send me a copy of how to run this engine. The engine is really a sweet heart, if you follow Tom's directions. So I had to do it, the wrong way and she acted up worst than a spoiled housewife, Ha Ha. The engine has a real nice 4-2-4 cycle but I want to be sure to have a light plane, to give her a chance to prove herself.) Thanks again, Gary
