Title: Adjustable Ball Link Control Horn Questions
Post by: Peter Hess on October 08, 2009, 10:07:35 AM
First, I am giving serious thought to using To Morris Adjustable Control Horns on my next couple of planes.  Other than being sure to use the slider nut,  do you have any advice or warnings about using them?

Second, leaving aside the question about whether both are necessary, is there any reason not to use a Tom Morris Adjustable Ball Link Control Horn on both flaps and elevators?

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

Nope they work great and the only control system I use in anything I'm serious about. Might also check out his reverse thread insert for the elevator.

Usually not necessary, complicates the flap connections and you would have to include some sort of access for adjustment.

Bob:
Thank you for your clear and concise answers to my questions.  However, I now have another question.  I am unfamiliar with the function of/advantages of the "reverse thread insert for the elevator."  I would greatly appreciate it if you would enlighten me.  Thanks in advance for your further help.

The reverse thread insert makes a turnbuckle out of the elevator push rod. It has a hex part that allows you to use a small wrench to adjust the pushrod length without having to disconnect anything. Some may have done it but I've never built a flapped ship that didn't require a tweak of the pushrod during the trimming process.

Thanks, again, Bob.  I understand.  It sounds as though it would be very useful.
