.40 size "ShoeString kit ?
« on: June 08, 2007, 10:28:25 PM »
Hi ,

I've always liked the looks of the "ShoeString" .
Is there anyone ( with the exception of the RSM .60 sized kit ) that makes a .40 sized kit of this airplane ?

Thanks :)

I've never seen a kit of Bill Simons Shoestring (the plane for which Bob Whitely's 60 sized beast is derived). But it isn't that hard to build from scratch.

Brodak has the Profile for 19-35 engines. You could upscale it for what you want or down scale the RSM version. Or as Randy says buy the 40 size plans and scratch build it, I'll help as much as I can as I'm sure others would also.

If the plans are dwg or dfx, myself or Randy or other people I'm sure, could scale it for you in seconds.

Far as I know, no one has done CAD plans for the Bill Simons Shoestring. It would be great since the plans need several minor corrections (like the cutout for the wing in the fuse that is inaccurate). Someone was working on some (hmm.. Larry Cunningham?) but as far as I know, they aren't available.

On the other hand, I imagine that Bob Whitely's Shoestring as CAD plans available and those could be re-sized.

IIRC, Bob Hunt said the airfoil as wrong on the FM plans for Bill Simon's Shoestring.  Again, IIRC, Bob said he cut the wing cores for the original.

Incorrect airfoils, and other things, were not uncommon on published planes back then.

Champione Lampione's NATS winng Sabre was a foam wing planes (actually the first foam wing to win the Walker Trophy) and it was drawn as a D tube wing.
