3/8 x 1/2 motor mounts for strength.

I use 3/8 x 1/2 aluminum channel, fill it with 1/4 ply and balsa. Then glue it into a crutch. drill the mounting holes, install brass 6-32 (in this case) inserts and butt them up against the channel. 2.4 ounces. Bullet proof.

Driill holes in the section behind the fire wall and remove more weight.   You can also taper it behind the fire wall. D>K

You can do the same drilling holes and tapering with hard maple to save weight.  The 1/2" edge of maple provides lots of glueing area to your fuselage doublers.  This is important for transfering engine vibration to the fuselage structure.

This is a very good idea.  Have you tries making it adjustable for swapping engines?
