Chipmunk trim detail

There will only be one more post after this one showing the finished plane.
Here is my trim addition to the boring fuse line and the AMA number. Time for clear coats.

Looking good. Clean and neat is very under rated.
Are you going to clear the canopy too?

No, I'm not. I can't think of a good reason to do it, but I can think of several reasons not to.

Yea, better hustle along. When do you leave for VSC? Are you using catalyzed polyurethane?

I can't wait to leave on Sunday. I fly out at about 7am. Get there around 10am. Should be a lot of fun.

Randy, it's all dope and I leave for VSC next Wed. It has 2 clear coats on it right now. There will probably be no time to sand and polish. Oh well.

LOL!!  I never did coat my plastic canopies until Bob Hunt told me to about 15 years ago.  Anyway, you can rub out the canopy to shine more! ;D

I sand them with 800 then shoot whatever clear I am using.  The canopy will be very dull before the clear goes on, but it clears right up with the clear coats.  I mainly use Sig Canopies........

You have to careful with dope to go easy the first couple of coats. Don't lay it on like latex. The thinner will disort the canopy. But if you go easy, it's not a problem. I usually sand the canopy fillets right into the canopy and sand the whole thing as Bill describes, then shoot clear over the whole thing. Works really well.

I should have mentioned the light coats to start, but then I always try to put on clear in light coats until I can tell there is some build up.  Then a fairly wet coat.

Hi Steve,

it is for better adhesion of the paint.  Never have done it with out sanding.
