Who's your FAVORITE LOONIE TOONER of the Day?
« on: April 15, 2009, 12:16:59 PM »
Guess I'll start this topic off myself.

Yesterday while trying to unstuff my stuffy computer...I found these old high pix'd photos..gobbling up all kinds of space.

These shots were taken by The Boeing News photographer at the retirement for our VP of Phantom Works beautiful office assistant Kathy Tate.
He made a progress study of one of my recognition loonie toons. As you can tell this was a drop dead 3 day project....that just about didn't make the scedule.  I had only  hours left when most of these shots were taken. (Look at the stress on old Shultzies face? LL~)
I have tried to crop and resize these...

Bye the way...My all time favorite loonie tooner is and always will be the amazing JACK DAVIS

Milton Caniff, Chester Gould, Walt Kelly, "Thanks and a tip of the hat" to Jimmy Hatlo."Thanks and a tip of the cap" to Al Capp. For the life of me I cannot recall who drew "Smilin' Jack"!     dg

I like Marvin Martian and the Mynah bird, two lesser known character of Looney Tunes fame.

Dale, the answer to who drew Smilin' Jack is here: http://www.toonopedia.com/smilin_j.htm

Daffy, always. "How revoltin".  Da bea da bea Daffy. LL~ LL~ LL~

Correct answer, Daffy, particularly early Daffy,  is the obvious choice if you limit yourself to Looney Tunes. However, Droopy is superior in every way, many of the late 50's-early 60's Woody Woodpeckers has an element of incoherence that is hard to describe, and anyone who can watch "Rubber Nipple Salesman"  from Ren and Stimpy and then go back and watch Bugs and find it clever simply has no soul.

Harvey Kurtzman....LITTLE ANNIE FANNIE...Playboy magazine...was another truly amazing loonie tooner and artist. Both Harvey and Jack Davis, my all time favorite toonman, both truly captivated my  imagination.
(Hey Brett...Do you think that HARVEY KURTZMAN LOOKS LIKE OUR HOWARD RUSH?)

Coming up on a line of storms one night with a new co-pilot trainee, I commented, "This line of weather would make Smilin' Jack stop smilin', to which she replied, "Who's Smilin' Jack?"......sad, just sad. And now just ten yers later I can't even remember Zack Mosely's name.......sad, just sad!

Thanks for address of the website, it's wonderful,    dg
