Title: Memories from the attic
Post by: jim ballard on February 05, 2014, 12:46:25 AM
Visited my dad last weekend, and he asked if I would go up in the attic to look for something. While there I found all of my old 1/2 A combat planes, TD .049's and even my old Goldberg buster with a fox .35. The last time I flew 1/2A combat was in the mid 80's at Strawberry Park in Houston. The memories flooded back. I took 2nd place at that contest when I beat Phil Cleveland.....ok I got lucky because he was very good....and me, not so good. But I had a very good pit guy....Tom Fluker Sr, who was my mentor in all things C/L. I'm pretty sure that trophy came from the pit. We flew quickie rat and Goldberg race at that contest and I think we placed in those as well.

Just ramblings from a has-been.....

Now dust them off and get back to having fun again.    Just wonder how many other old planes are being held captive in attics and basements.

Hi John,

You know what.....I think I will refinish that old buster and give that a try. I haven't picked up a handle in a long time! I've thought many times about getting back into it. I live out in the boonies now and people here don't even know what a model airplane is. Might be a challenge to find a place to fly. If I can, I bet I could talk my wife into holding on to it while I run out to the handle.  :)

Boy, you are out in the boonies according to Yahoo Maps.   Several hours drive to any one close to you.  Maybe Waco or Fort Worth.
