LEW McFarland STUNT GRUNT FOR THE DAY
« on: December 14, 2006, 01:40:54 PM »
LEW "THE SHARK!"McFARLAND
Stunt Grunt of the day!!!

My sincerest and best wishes....Lew!

May the Holidays bring you Peace, health happiness.

Here is Lew....just back from the World's Championships at the 1968 Kansas Nats with his "supa-sized" stretched wing Shark 45.
(notice the outboard wing tip)....
that Lew had to cut off and repair twice...so as to fit the containerized cargo shipping containers on the airliner to and from Europe.
HOW'S THAT FOR "INSTANT  CUSTOM RE-SIZING FOR A SHIPMENT ROUTINE?

LET'S WISH LEW A SPEEDY RECOVERY AND BEST WISHES DURING CHRIST'S SEASON.

I always loved the Shark and respect everybody like Lew that has kept this Hobby alive and at the level of skill it is so I will be able to enjoy it again.
I did start a Shark to be powered with a Veco 45 but had to sell
it to one of my new brother-in-laws to help pay the bills. The USN didn't pay much, even with war zone  and hazardous duty pay (flight deck). Of course I sold my 59 T-bird with the 430 CI engine for $150.00 just to get married. BEST THING I EVER DID ALMOST 37 YEARS AGO.

Did you mean "getting married" or was it  when you sold that awesome 59 T-Bird?
WOW!
Yes...Love makes us do the strangest things. Meeee too. Humm? PAIN AND PLEASURE...both are addicting.
Especially when I had an argument with the preacher...when I insisted that I wanted to put into my vows....
"CAROL, LOVE ME, LOVE MY AIRPLANES..... LOVE ME, LOVE MY MOTORCYLES.....LOVE ME, LOVE MY TRUMPET JAZZ ALBUMS...LOVE ME, LOVE MY SKIING...LOVE ME, LOVE MY TENNIS PLAYING.....LOVE ME, LOVE MY KITES...ETC..ETC...ETC.
but soon dropped that FANTAAAAASEEEEE' as soon as the music started.

I met Lew at VSC10. when they were doing the static judging. After talking to him I now call him the gentleman of stunt. What a nice guy. I learned to do the pattern on a Ruffy. I must have built 10 of them. It was a great desighn and was easy to build. My 1st one was from a kit the rest were scratch built. I still have one hangging on my wall.
