Title: Vector spinner
Post by: Bombat on April 01, 2007, 11:23:56 AM
The ARC Vector calls for a 1.75 spinner : two questions : I would like to use an ali two blade type on a Brodak 40 but the tru spin I have is only suitable for up to 9x6 props (according to their website)
Any suggestions for something suitable?
Also, what is the shaft thread for the Brodak 40?
Thanks

Check with Randy Smith on the spinner. The Brodak 40 thread's are 1/4-28

Tru-turn will custom cut a spinner to fit the prop of your choice if you order it directly from them.  I expect there may be a slight additional charge.  My experience with Tru-Turn spinners on RC models is that while the spinners are high quality, they are not particularly light.  They do have a light back plate (several cut-outs) option for their larger spinners.

Randy may be able to supply custom fit spinners also; he does nearly everything!!  Randy's spinners would probably be lighter than the standard Tru-Turn.

Cheers,
Jim

I suspect you *might* have to cut the notches to fit your prop.  I have no clue as to why they would NOT be "suitable", otherwise, for a bigger prop.  I have used 1.75 spinners on .40s and .51s before after grinding the cut outs to fit.

Brodak carries a nice light aluminum spinner that will fit...

Thanks for the suggestions all . Bill, Tru Turn don't advise modifying their product so I thought I best see if there was something in standard form
Cheers

I see.  I wouldn't tell anyone to go against the Manu. directions, but in MY case, I have had to file/grind Tru Turns, and about every other spinner there is, at one time or another for props to fit.  I haven't experienced any failures or problems.  Again, that is just my experiences.  Spinner cutouts never do fit all props......  (Please, don't take this as critcism, it isn't)

Bill, that's useful to know : I may well try to carefully ease the spinner to fit

Cheers

Essential, when carving the notches in spinners, is that the prop blade does not touch the spinner....otherwise the blade is liable to be severed....

Don't know why you couldn't make a spinner fit. Used to make your own cut outs on spinners. A lot of them just came notched and you make the final fit?

Hi Gary,

Actually my old "spun" Froom (Veco forerunner, you know) spinners had no slots, notches or anything for the props! ;D  You had to do it all!  LL~
