Hi Larry or Paul,
What are the advantages of this setup. I am familiar with the engine you speak of and considering the size of the plane and the power this motor makes on a pipe, it almost appears to be overkill. I have seen this plane perform really well with the 36 and a muffler. Just curious as to how it's working out for you. Thanks

Greg this set up is being used by a few west coast flyers (ala Ptg)  this engine does produce a lot of power, but the pipe / setup with the right combo , gives it a very good steady run. like the PA 40 ultra lite it has a great range . y1 #^

My Vector 40 ARC has the Magnum 36 on stock muffler and I can really recommend this setup. Runs on a steady wet 2-stroke almost (but not exactly) like a pipe run at $150 less money. The carbon 3-blade is perhaps a better place to spend one's money. Larry Wong has a lot of experience with the 36 on a pipe and carbon 3-blade, using I believe the narrow blade Bolly 11-4 or cut-down 12-4. Larry, correct me if this is wrong. I am having good luck with the Thunder Tiger 11x4.5 on both the Magnum and the RoJett 40, a good value at $2 compared to the $50 carbon props!

My oldest, Aaron, retrofit a Magnum 36 into his Ares a couple of years ago.  He had been using an OS 32F (from Ward Van Duzer).  It had done very good for him, but the Magnum 36 XLS II completely changed that airplane!  He had to fly it orginally at 4,9-5.0 on 60' Eye-Eye.  With the Magnum, it was more solid on the same lines at 5.3-5.4!  He could NEVER do that with the OS, it just wouldn't fly that slow!

It is the 2nd best .36 I have ever used in Classic planes.

As to the Vector/pipe .36 set up, I believe that is what Dondi Garrison won Jr. with in 1996.  Or something very similar, it was one of Randy's planes!
