I am considering the Ultra Hobby Gieseke Nobler ARF and a new OS LA-S 46, since the Brodak 40's are just not available.
Do you think the 46 will be too much for the plane, and/or has anyone else tried this combo?

The UHP Gieseke Nobler is only
410 510 sq. in.(oops! - Thanks, Dick), so I would be reluctant to recommend an LA .46, especially as the plane builds to around 38 oz. But that's just me . . .
Maybe a T&L McCoy .40???

I believe the LA 46 and LA40 are the same weight (or very close), so you might as well go for the LA46---I think the 46 is a really nice stunt motor.
However you need to prop the LA46 to use the power wisely. I think there are a lot of good suggestions, like the 12.25 x 3.75---maybe trimmed to get the ground clearance.
Also the LA 40-46 with muffler is heavier than the original power, so you may need some tailweight.
I have 2 Brodak 40's so one of the two would be my choice-- if I had a GN---and if electric wasn't the best choice of all. S?P

Ultra Hobby claims 510 sq/in and a finished weight of 43 oz with a Thunder Tiger 36.

What about an Aerotiger 36 with CNC tube muffler and 10.6 x 4.9 - 2B Magic prop. Mine works great on a 41 oz Cavalier. There is some windup in high wind but you can change to a 3B - 11 x 4.3 N for windy days.

Dick: I would not recommend the LA 46 due to the size of the prop that
would be needed. I use a Thunder Tiger (not AeroTiger 36) in the prototype
G N comp. kit with a Bolly 11.25 x 4 prop. The plane weighs 43 oz. and
flies great. This is a killer combo. I had the motor retimed and then added
an AeroProducts NVA. Why not go with the Evolution 36? It is readily
available, plenty powerful and comes with multiple mufflers and venturis
for $80. A no-brainer in my book.

Thanks, Steve. I read your article on this plane.
Who sells the Thunder Tiger or the Evolution?

These are readily available at hobby shops.

No hobby shops in my area. I did find the Evo on line, though.

Thunder Tiger 36 Pro is available online at Tower Hobbies

It'll need a c/l venturi and a lightweight muffler.

Randy will build you an Aero Tiger. Or if that's too high zoot for your budget his re-timed .36's work great!
I have five of these little beauties. Two on a pipe. Two Aero Tigers. And one re-timed. All are spectacular!

I now have a Brodak 40 and an EVO 36, in addition to an OS LA 46 and a Supertigre G51, plus a Supertigre 46 that is being returned by my son and a couple of old OS 35's. I will start the Nobler (when I buy it) on the Brodak 40.

Was thinking about the Gieske Nobler, but it seems most do not recomend the LA-46. The question is what about a
OS-35 or a K&B Stallion 35 also have a Thunder Tiger Pro 36(r/c) But no c/l venturi or nv. Just trying to save a few
bucks and use what i have in stock. Any thoughts which would be best to use.
Thanks John.

For what it's worth, a LA46 with venturi only weighs 0.8 oz more than a stock Thundertiger 36 without venturi. I just weighed both without mufflers. If I was going to use either with the Gieske Nobler, I would want to use a Tongue muffler to hold the weight down.
Of course you probably want a bigger prop for the LA46 than with the TT36, so that might add a bit more weight depending on how you choose.
I am a little surprised about the negativity on the LA46. It isn't any heavier than the LA40, a common engine these days for Nobler-like planes.
If you have an LA46 already, I'd say use it. You just have to prop it to use the power correctly. I would think one of the Master Airscrew 3 blade props might work really well. But you might have to play with it to get things right.

Rick Sawicki's electric one is an awesome flier. You'd have ot get motor data from him. When he dropped down a size from an axi 2826/12, decreasing motor and battery wieght it really came alive. I think he is launching around 46 ounces, but don't quote me on it.
