Title: Tutor II Reloaded

Well my ARF Tutor was in need of a recover. The Monokote that came on it was starting to sluff off.
Stripped it, and added a dash of color.
Still need to connect the flaps, and add some letters and numbers. Fuel tank might help too.

Lessons learned... stay away from monokote. Ultrakote is the way to go. I would also suggest using a little balsarite.

Fuel tank!  Who needs a fuel tank when you learn to fly by whip control and using the wind.   LL~ LL~ Anyway the Tutor is looking great.  I like the colors too. H^^

Great looking model!  What engine are you using?  Any control system mods? (You've probably guessed that I've got parts in a box and want to move on with them!)

Build it !!! You will be glad you did.
The only mods I suggest is to change out the metal bellcrank, and add a CF pushrod with ball links. Other then that they fly fine box stock.
I use a stock OS LA .46 and it hauls the mail just fine.
They fly as good at any profile out there IMHO. y1

I was curious.  I've been advised to put an ST .51 in it, as Bill Little suggested.  I got an ST and sent it off to be "upgraded", but it is taking longer than I might have liked.  Just don't know if the TII will climb to the top of the "to build" list before the engine returns.  I know that I've got to get cranked up on a nostalgia build of a Ringmaster, hopefully before the annual Ringmaster Round-up in May.

Later, and thanks for the insight about the LA .46.  I've got one of those in a box in the shop.

Hi Jim,

If Paul says it is good with the LA .46, I would go with it.  Keep it light and it should be no problem!  I just have a touch of the Tim Taylor "TOOL TIME" syndrome.... ;D  If some is good, more is better! LOL!!

I think the 51 is a bit heaver then the 46.

Also I think the plans show a LA 40 or 46, so I think it might have been designed around the OS engine.
You can do the whole pattern in just about 4oz. 51 might burn more?

You could always set it up for both and see if one is better then the other, burns less fuel ect.

It will not be a hangar queen if you build it. ;D

And yea Lou's Bear Tut2 is killer!

My Tutor 2 had an argument with a tree and lost.....the outside wing. It was time for some work anyway.

From the various ARF's I've seen, I'd suggest that if you are willing to replace the fuselage with a scratch-build, and can do a reasonable job in making it STIFF, the G.51 is not at all impossible. But if you want to keep the ARF/ARC fuselage pretty much stock, the .40/.46LA is a better bet...enough smoother to make a difference.  y1 Steve

Go with the LA 46.   Mine was dependable, more dependable than the LA 40's I was trying to run.   Here in Kansas and at VSC I used 4 1/2 ounces of fuel.   H^^
