Title: Top Flite Tutor II plans
Post by: Stan Bidowski on April 23, 2008, 06:05:08 PM
Now that the Tutor II ARF is a 'dead duck', are modelers tracing them, so that it can be built by those
interested in having one?  Now is the time to do so, before all the ARF's are crashed and trashed,
never to be seen again.    :'(    Being an ARF, there is not a set of building plans available, or is there?

Not sure I'd bother the Cardinal is a better airplane and still available.

Yes, I'd agree the Brodak Cardinal is a better profile than the Tutor.  However, the Tutor II
still has an appeal for many.  My post was more of an observation from similar occurrences
from the past, where a product or knowledge is lost to time.  The design is a C/L plane of
some merit.  It likely didn't sell very well because of the poor fuselage integrity around the
ARF's motor mount area, and word of this getting around??
If the model becomes a kit or scratch/plan built, this problem could be avoided by the builder.
Anyway, I think the design should survive, in some form, plans at least. - Either by Top Flite
itself, or by someone with happens to trace out and draw up a set.  It would be a shame if
all our models were the same design.  Being a larger plane than the original Tutor, the
mark II would make a good project for those looking for a bigger profile, as most profiles
are 'usually' sized for something like a .35 or smaller.

Hi Stan,

I just saw, somewhere, that the Tutor II is back in stock at Tower. (??)

It is still listed on Tower's site as "Discontinued" which I think is more final than "Not in Stock". My guess is that they found a few Tutors somewhere in the warehouse, or some shop returned them and that is why they briefly had a few. But from the thread on SSW, it sounds like there still are a few out there in local hobby shops if people are looking for them.
