Modified ARC T-rex - rebuilt the nose etc to suit electric - added thunderbolt tail (as most do) made all the recommended mods as recommended - added additional carbon fibre bracing etc as well -
Flew it yesterday - goes well - and has a great corner - have a bit of trimming to do -but looks promising - more info on the electric forum...

Could you please detail the SLC/Tissue/Rattle can finish?

Could you please detail the SLC/Tissue/Rattle can finish?
Sure thing....
1)start as usual with 2-3 coats thinned nitrate - sand with 400 grit -
2) Cut the SLC to be approx 1/2" wider than the open bays on the wing and iron on - I then trim the film back to just over 1/4 to the outside of the open bays (really just to be able to hide the line of the film)
3) Lightly sand the SLC with 800 grit - (wipe down with either de-natured alcohol or de-greaser)
4) another couple coats of thinned nitrate -really just to put a base down on the SLC, sand with 400
5) Lay on the tissue/silkspan - I just use water and dope the edges down with thinned nitrate again. Once dry put 2 coats unthinned nitrate over the whole lot to fill the tissue (usually only takes 2 coats)
6 ) sand everything again with 400 - wipe down with de-greaser.
7) I use duplicolour from here on - so Duplicolour high build primer as filler coat - sand as much as I can off - it sands REALLY REALLY easy bu8t fills paper quickly (i went to wet sanding after a little while and it was a bit easier)
8) wipe down with de-greaser - then hit it with duplicolour sandable primer to get base - this only comes in white/grey or rust - so I use white.
9)light sand with 400, wipe down with de-greaser - then top coat with Duplicolour acrylic lacquer ( i use this because it comes in a bigger can)
10) trim and additional colour are the small duplicolour touch up rattle cans
11) clear coat (if you need one) Duplicolour Acrylic Lacquer Clear...
you can buff the top coat if you want - obvioulsy it is just like doing a car - as it is the same paint.........

Where are you buying Duplicolor Lacquer rattle cans? That is all I used to use... I can't find it anywhere...
-
I live in New Zealand - I get them from a place called REPCO - it is an Auto parts store.
I need to pick your brain on trimming this thing too - it just isnt right at the moment

Somehow the term thunderjugs is just wrong.

Somehow the term thunderjugs is just wrong.
its a play on words - which in this case has two meanings - one - which you are probably refering to....and the other being part of Thunderbolt and Jug - both names associated with the P-47.
-
Right, both are plays on the names they were called during WW2. Jug came from its milk bottle shape..You do remember milk bottles, right? H^^
Heck, even I remember glass milk bottles. But I was thinking of something else....

Ty - that was the first meaning I mentioned y1 although I have some more recent references HA
