film lifting

Hi
Has anyone come up with a reliable method of preventing the film from lifting on a Brodak ARF? I remember Hunt saying "use hairspray"....but what would he know about hairspray? Or a comb, for that matter.

Oh are you in for it.  I remember seeing pictures of a Bobby Hunt with a full head of curly hair.   

One way I know of sealing the edges of the Brodak so called covering is to buff it and put a coat of clear dope over the edges.   Or better yet, buff the whole plane and put a decent color scheme on it.

Hair spray is lacquer? Right? I have done dope, trim stickum (the Top Flight stuff). Nothing worked for the long term. More suggestions please.

Mask off the edges with about 1/4" open surrounding the seam. Lightly wet sand with 600 grit, then apply 30 minute epoxy thinned with denatured alcohol. The epoxy should provide both mechanical strength and fuelproof seal.

I used FletchTite(brand) arrow fletching glue with positive results.Bought it at Gander Mountain, might be available at other sporting goods stores.Thin it to brush consistency with MEK apply it with a small brush on all seams. Been on a ARF Vector since 2009 and still holding. Try pulling a arrow fletch off a carbon shaft arrow.

Thanks Steve.....the clear packing tape might not be heavy enough.....
But I was wandering through Lowes yesterday and discovered that they have duct tape in a multitude of colors!

MINWAX wipe-on polyurethane. Use a Q-Tip to apply a thin coating to all the monokote seams. I've used it on several planes and it has kept the seams sealed for years. The only downside is that it may yellow slightly with age in the sunlight. This slight yellowing is only a bit noticeable on white-colored covering.
