Brodak ARF Ringmaster
« on: August 15, 2016, 10:29:04 AM »
Ben came home from the Nat's with a Brodak ARF Ringmaster and before we put it together do I need to replace the lead outs sice they are crimped?

Thanks,

James

Good idea as I have never liked crimped lines unless it was an emergency like in combat.

You may want to sneak a peek at the bellcrank before a major surgery. I thought I heard the new Brodak ARF's did not have crimped lead-outs. I may be wrong. Are they crimped at the eyelets? If so they may be crimped inside.

They are crimped at the wingtip, and i agree I'm not crazy about crimps.

You could try a pull test around 15 lb. before assembly, the ring is not a big heavy plane, the crimps may be o.k.

James,
I have seen a number of the ARF/ARC Ringmasters and they are crimped with a much improved crimp compared to what they used before.  Crimped ends have served me well for a number of years on older airplanes before I started wrapping the ends.  If Ben's airplane comes out for weight like mine (26ozs) the pull test is fairly light and has not presented any issues.  Personally I would leave them alone and do a good job assembling and fly the airplane.  A couple items that might be of some help is a longer horn and Monokote style hinges/pinned hinges.  I used the stock horn and have to counter the fast controls with fairly narrow spacing at my handle.  Build it, fly it and enjoy.
