Hi Doug
I have been working on this for about 18 months.  Last summer the company that John Brodak contracted submitted prototypes for the Vector and  later on the SV-11.  The company that builds these does a spectacular job on all the wood parts, we needed a little more TLC on some details and the control line specific hardware.  I designed the electric installations for both models and evaluated the first prototypes of the electrics.  Randy Smith (designer of the Vector & SV-11) evaluated the IC versions of both.  Changes were made. The model that Steve picked up is the final "prove out" version.  Since Steve had not seen the first prototype he came into this with no preconceived notions and a fresh set of eyes to evaluate the build.  Sounds like his experience has been real good.

Steve had built one of the earlier Vector ARF's (or ARC?) and he has noted that the new versions are better built.  I flew the proto E-Vector last spring before handing it over to Mr. Brodak.  The electric SV-11 prototype is RTF, pending a few more degrees on the thermometer and a few less mph on the wind gauge!

The IC powered versions of both models will be available as an ARF or an ARC, the electric versions will be available as ARF only.  Delivery target is late June or July

Dennis  has done a great job on these. After Putting  together  a E Ringmaster and  finding how good it Flys,  I want to help out a little. It may take up more of his time talking to me all the time, then if he did it him self. I will show more pictures as I get it done.

Hi MM
Not sure yet.  Last years protos were heavy.  The E-Vector weighs 55 oz with a 4Sx2700 battery.  The E-SV11 is 73 oz RTF.  I told the builder we needed 7-8 oz reduction and they pledged to achieve that.  I am awaiting to see the final weight on Steve's Vector, but I know they added a lot of air in place of balsa - which is usually an effective path.

Last year's 55 ouncer flies quite well, if they get it under 50 oz I think it will be great.

Dennis, will the SV-11 be available ARC and ARF?
Might a brave sole be able to trim out some of the weight before covering of an ARC model??

I love the looks of the SV-11....
Thanks,

I was told on good authority that Last years prototypes were for fit and finish. Not for weight. Production ones should be lighter.

Hi Chris
The IC powered versions of the Vector & SV11 will be available in ARF & ARC.  The electric versions are ARF only.

Hi Doug
Last years prototypes showed terrific workmanship on all of the wood work.  There were problems with the control systems and in some of the details, plus they seemed heavier than they needed to be.  Brodak sent bell cranks and control horns for the kits plus pictures of how to do the control installations - and they did a real nice job on the final prove out builds.  BTW, the SV11's will be built with the heavy duty PSP bell cranks and 1/8" wire horns, the control surfaces all equipped with lucky boxes.  Folks at the Toledo show this year got to see these prove out models.

Last I heard the delivery is looking like mid July or so.  I have not seen any prices yet.

I finally was able to sneak out in a somewhat breezy day to test fly the electric SV11.  It flies extremely well (surprise, huh?) and I will be detail trimming it between now and the Fly-In - expect to be able to "pass it around" to anyone who wants to try it out.

What is the power system/prop in the E SV11, Dennis?
Any idea of milliamps replaced after a flight to the battery?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris
An EXTREMELY small data sample: 2 patterns.  APC 13x4.5, prototype of new Brodak 3520 motor (950kV) Brodak F2B Hornet 60qA ESC, with Hubin FM-Hornet timer, 5.5 sec laps on .018x65' cables, 8 laps after pattern.  Flying in 8-10mph winds, used 2550 mah out of the 4Sx3500 packs.  I would expect the battery usage to go up to maybe 2800 or so on a calm day (whatever those are).  In any case I expect these packs to last a long time using like this!

I used this power system in part because the 4Sx3500 packs are insanely light (274 g).  If I had instead used my usual 6S power system I would have expected to use about 1700mah at the cost of a couple ounces.

Great Dennis!

Sounds like @ 25-26A average, maybe less if your flight is over 6 minutes.
Motor should be using @ 375W or so.
275g is very light for those packs indeed....
Sounds like some good results.

Any pics you can divulge of the business end??
Top or bottom load for batteries?

Thanks.

Chris

Hi Chris,
The Vector has a top side battery hatch, the SV-11 has a left (inboard) side battery hatch. Both electrics are designed for front mounted motors.  The Vector has the mounting holes on a 25mm bolt circle which fits most of the popular motors (Turnigy as two on 25mm and 2 on 19mm, Rimfire has 4 on 19mm, there may be other out there).  The SV-11 has slots that will accommodate the Arrowind 3526 (4 x 4mm on 30mm bc) and the new Brodak (and most others, with 4 x 3mm on 25mm bc).

One unusual feature on the SV-11 is that the wing is installed from the TOP.  Reason being that the fuselage is actually somewhat deeper below the wing (designed for pipe tunnel) than above the wing. By putting the cut-out on the top the fuse remains its rigidity and alignment better.  However the Vector has the cutout through the bottom.

Both airplanes include a scoop built into the nose to direct air into the front of the motor, while the main chin scoop will cool the ESC & batteries. Don't freak out over the nose picture, they build just a front end mock-up from F1 forward to work out how they were going to build the electric nose, the "real" fuselages have continuous body side and doubler systems.  The SV-11 is shown, the Vector very similar. The scoop is in a very advantageous position for pumping air through the front of the motor.

It is here and appears to be ready for its first contest flights tomorrow.  A few trimming sessions and adjustments have taken place and Samantha appears to be able to steer it around the air well.  Will see how it works out tomorrow.

The eVector was hit by electric gremlins today so did not get in an official.  Steve is working hard to get things right so Samantha can give it a shot again tomorrow.  I have a front row seat as a judge for that class.

It came in at 46.5 Oz,  that is with the big motor and 3500 battery. I added cross bracing  in the stability and elevator,  and Tom  morris  coving and the China coat. Samantha  got a 337 with only 4 full patterns before her flight.

Steve and Samantha got the bugs worked out on the airplane and she did a decent pattern with it even though she had a limited number of flights.  Trouble was in the speed control, dropped in a new one and everything worked as designed.  I hear that the container with the latest round of goodies is due in port some time in July.

The ARFs and ARCs are in at Brodaks but they don't have the instruction books printed yet. They said it would be another 3 weeks. I told them I've been building planes for 55 years what do I need an instruction book for but they won't release them without the books. Personally I think it's a ploy to give vendors first bite of the apple but this actually works out good because I have one on reserve with Brodaks and I can read some reviews before buying.

In this day and age, a good option would be to send the customer an electronic instruction book-via email, ahead of time.
They could save money, time, and trees.
I know there is like 2% that don't have capability to do that, but we ARE on an online chat forum (Just Sayin'!).
