Title: Legacy Lines

I'm almost done with my Legacy ARF. Its powered by an 4 stroke Otais 62.
Mass is ~58 oz less fuel. Planning on 63 to 65' long lines.
Question- Are .015" lines sufficient, or should I go to .018"??

Try closer to 66 foot long lines. The Legacy is a relatively large design. You can try .015 dia. lines, but they'll feel stretchy when compared to the thicker, stronger .018's.

I fly my 62-oz Legacy on 63' eye-to-eye .018 braided stainless from Tom Morris. Like John says above .015s would be too springy for positive control. Not sure about 66' lines but I guess it depends on where you fly. Longer lines equals more stretchiness even in .018 and more drag. Try it and see what works in your air.

Glad I saw this. I have been flying my new Legacy off and on for the last two weeks and was thinking of lengthening the lines because even though the engine setting is sweet the plane just seems to close  so I chicken out of some of the manuvers. I'm at 65ft .018's.  St 51 with a 12/6 BYO prop. I'd like to iether move it away from me or slow it down wthout losing the nice engine runs I'm getting. Am wondering if I realy have a line length problem or maybe a prop problem?

Maybe I don't need the 51? Would a .46 be a better choice?

Stay with the .51 The Tom Lay .51 in my Score (soon to be moved to a Shark) likes 12-5 Pro Zinger better than the 12-6. Just a thought.

I will second the 12-5 RevUp or Zinger Pro on the ST51, which I too had in a Score and which it pulled with real authority. See ST51 thread on Engine Set Ups.

I agree with the above posts-go with the 12x5. Let us know what your lap times are. Everyone and every plane has different preferences however if you shoot for around 5.2 seconds per lap you will be in the ballpark IMHO.  If you get close and are getting good engine runs change the line length to get the lap times you are comfortable with, leave the NV alone. As far as the plane looking too close, big planes can look that way but you will get used to it. Check out the open forum for the dates of the WDA contests this year. Hope to see you there. As far as the original post goes...switch to the .018's. Length to be determined through test flights. 8)

I've been using 64', 60oz ARF Legacy, using the ST 60, 13X6 TF prop, 5.1 laps.
0.018...
Actually, Bene gave me those lines when I crashed my old Legacy, which was on 0.015...
He said to use 0.018, so, I did it.

Went with a Zinger 12/5 with takeoff rpm at 9500, which is a 100 rpm faster than I used to take off with the 12/6. The plane does handle better and doesn,'t seem to be as fast but the pull is fine. Am getting more comfortable with it.
