The Smoothie was upright....and Bob Palmer testified that the Brodak version was authentic....

I believe that the Palmer Thunderbird had either upright or inverted engine?

The first Smoothie I ever saw, 1957 or so, had engine inverted.  Built mine the same way later.

I think the later Veco/Dumas kits had the option of invert or upright like the Thunderbird.   H^^

Upright, inverted, all legal for OTS, Classic, or what have you. Veco kit plans show 3 versions: upright (pointed nose a'la Broak ARF), inverted pointed nose (no cowl), or inverted w/cowl. I built mine (kit) inverted w/cowl. John Miller drew plans showing an easy conversion from upright to inverted cowled from the Brodak kit.  8)
