Getting the Strega finally trimmed out well.....The Enya .61 is breaking in and getting stronger andI finally felt bold enough to go through the whole pattern.
Flying a big plane sure is different. Daunting. Thrilling. Satisfying.

Good thing you left some of the laps out. Did you short-tank it? Those big planes are so graceful. Wayne used to sit in the circle with me when I flew the Magnum. He kept telling me, "Big plane, big shapes." And it's true, I had some extra room I was not using on the 64' lines. We started marking off 45 degrees around the circle and it turns out I was not flying nearly big enough. Finding the horizontal 45s helped me locate the vertical 45s and fly longer legs much better. Unfortunately, I never did get to work more on that with the Magnum, but I can see myself using the whole circle better now with the Cardinal.
I know it was your shakedown pattern, and I haven't noticed this with your other ships, but do you realize you center everything to the left? I found myself doing the same thing to the right, as I'm a Northpaw. I started using my face as the center mark, or either a distant landmark, for intersections and loops, and I could see the shape of my maneuvers more accurately. Your OH8s were the most centered stunt with the intersections straight overhead. I also know you aren't posting flights to get evaluated(especially from an Int. flyer), but I hope you at least find my observations interesting.
My mission for the rest of the Summer is to pay attention and fly more precisely rather than goofing around and not trying very hard. So you better practice up for October, I'll be breathing down yer neck! Lol... not too early for smack is it?

Daunting.[/quotparticularly when its trying to pull you down the field in a 20 knot breezw . ;D >:D
Going Very Nicely . Well Flown . Might pay to limit the flights to reasonable air rather than hurricanes and severe turbulance , being rtf , as youve just reglued the nose you wouldnt want to loosen ALL the other joints .
Dont let my whinging dampen your ardure . Looks Excellent .

Actually edited out most of the laps....realized I only left out a couple. The Strega has a 6.5 oz tank so I thought my short tank of 4.75 ozs was light but it flew long. Did the pattern plus another 16 laps. Filled the tank and got 8:38 minutes!
I have shorter lines until the engine breaks in and gets more power. It is getting there. I know what you mean on 45s. I always second guess myself there a bit. Always feels high.
As to the left....I just wanted to be where it was natural as I get to know this big-arse plane. Plus I was sorta feeling out wind and going with it. Why fight it.
This Summer, one of my flying goals is to get more centered, not lead the plane and let the handle movement do the work. To achieve that will take time. This is my third summer know and I am on track with my 5 year plan. If I still had time to go out to the field and stooge fly I may be able to progress a wee quicker but we can't do that at our limited flying site.
I sure hope to get to Huntersville and fly in Advanced as that is where I have been flying of late. Smack on my man....it only fires me up.
I take the Braveheart approach and throw a small stone.
Now you shake them webs and go groove it.

With our limited time at our feild....I must take the air I am granted.
I did beef up the nose when assembling. I must say...the plane feels solid!
Can't say the same for me.

Nice first pattern and thanks for sharing your videos. How do you compare flying that "big" plane to flying the 40 sized ships?
Yesterday I went to a "Stunt Symposium" at the GSCB field. Bob Hunt sat out in the circle with me as I was going thru the pattern. He kept saying "fly the flats" on the square maneuvers and the " +" on the clover leaf. He also said that super sharp corners were not as important as the straight sections between them. We also worked on my OH8 and hourglass....It was great having a World Champion out there with you.

That was some nice flying! That is a great looking plane as well. I was never the greatest with the square or triangle loops as I always seemed to let my nerves get the best of me and I exit too early. Hopefully with my Nobler ARF, I'll have more confidence as it's just an ARF and not a kit I spent a lot time building and finishing.
I also like flying the C/L pattern with my R/C planes. It's a lot of fun standing in the middle of the empty field and flying the plane around me like it's on lines.

There is a lot to see and feel with a big plane and I think the trimming out process is even more important. But time will tell. Need a lot more time on the Strega.
I'd love to attend a Stunt Clinic. Always something to work on and improve upon.
Thanks Skip.

Thankee Roger. The Strega is starting to feel comfortable. Yeah, triangles are tough.
Stay with it.

Very nice flight. It was pretty hard to tell but I don't think you were grossly oversized. If anything, you are under what most people do (mostly because the bottoms are pretty high), particularly on inside maneuvers.

Thanks Brett. I have had a busy summer on the road with my show and have hardly had any flying time. Waiting for the engine to truly open up on the Strega. First big plane.......feels thrilling.

A Zinger 12x5 is giving me the best flights at this point in engine break-in. Have not flown it in a while due to my work schedule. Been on the road doing my show.

Thanks Shug, I needed a good grin to get rid of the drag-ass. Tough crowd there, and your use of that very fact to re-engage them was quite good work. You made me spew coffee with, "Natural born surveyor.".. anyway...
Will says the contest doesn't fit into your schedule, though you'll be passin' through our area during October. Sorry to hear that, I was looing forward to seeing you. But I wish you happy travels and have fun.

Wish I could get down but too many gigs and commitments. Plus...not been flying a lot and just don't feel in competition form.
But I shall return::::::::

I was entertained and it brought back the memory of the first state fair I attended. It was mainly for the car races and a few side shows. Maybe we or the modelers need to schedule contests so you can attend in the off season of county and state fairs. By the way I still like watching you perform. H^^

Nice job.
I didn't know the ARF came in a left-handed version. Cool.

I enjoyed the show!
I also liked "Bassface" by Redtenbacher's Funkestra - great bass line there!

Getting to know it and still in one piece so that says something. Thankee.

Showed my wife the video, she is a bluegrass player. She plays mandolin and fiddle too and thought your playing was great, especially considering the complications involved....LOL!

Hey, Shug, what a great attitude you have. Love ya, man... could be the late night pain meds talking, but I always mean what I say, even if it is cringingly embarrassing in the morning.
Take care, don't overdo the knee action,

Thankee Rusty. Knee is feeling great since that video. That video was 2013 not long after the surgery. I work on the knee a lot and pay attention to it. All secure in sector seven.
Off on a 75 mile thru hike next week!

A hiker too? Awesome. Do a little of that myself. Going on a climb in Canada in august, climbing Mt Huber. It's a peak adjacent to Mt Victoria which you see in and picture looking down lake Louise.
