Baby Super Clown
« on: September 27, 2017, 05:57:16 PM »
This is a kitbash from the Brodak Baby Clown ARC kit.  The added flaps make it closer to scale with the Super Clown than the kit is to the original Baby Clown.

Power is a slightly tweaked Cox Medallion .049. Twin Bypass Cylinder and Galbreath needle valve, plus addition of use of the crankcase pressure from that little nipple on the side of the crankcase.

Currently flying on 42' of .008 line with a gray Cox 6x3 prop.

Note the dual pushrods. This system was usually used by Bob Palmer to get very linear control response. Bellcrank drives the elevator, which then back drives the flaps. The aerodynamic forces oppose each other and reduce the amount of torque the bellcrank must provide, thus reducing required line force difference to maintain control. A third benefit is that making adjustments is very easy. Bellcrank to elevator on one rod, elevator to flap on the other.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

No, I like working flaps and they are no big deal to do.
