I decided it's time to assemble another NoblARF. I took out the fuselage and drilled the mounts for the OS S35. This time, all 4 holes came out closer to the outer edge than the inner edge. Could this one be smaller than the last one I put together? I want to reinforce the mounts anyway, so I will see what I have room to do. I can't believe some people put the LA 46 on this thing. This will also get my own steel clunk tank, because it worked so well on the last one. After I flew my first one with an OS 35S, I decided that a good Fox 35S would be more than enough power, but I don't like how they start inverted.

They are far easier to start inverted than upright. This is what I did - attach battery, put finger over intake. Pull through until you get a light bump. Remove your finger and all the excess fuel runs out of the venturi. Flip forward, engine starts.

You might have to burp it with the airplane upside down on the first start of the day but you don't want to start it that way. The chance of flooding it with the cylinder up is far too likely.

I totally agree with Brett...we have no problem inverted...Bob Dixon has been competing with that same setup for four years in Classic...the only difference is we use a sullivan 4oz round tank setup as uniflow...3 1/2 ounces of
fuel gets the 6 minute run consistently.

The Fox NVA works ok...I admit though we dropped in the PA needle in mine and in Bob's....been running great since 2007.

I like the PA NVA in the Fox. Never had any real problems starting a Fox .35 inverted.

I need to get my ARF Nobler finished and flying. With the no BOM rules around the SE, I could enter it in Classic with no problems. Anyway, my son has never flown a Nobler, and he's only been flying C/L stunt about 20 years......!

A short peice of fuel line or Teflon tape will cure 99% of the Fox needle problems.

I have a few of the old Fox brass spray bars that I use with the old style flat needle, and they work great. There is a learning curve to setting the flat needles, but once set they are good to go and rarely need adjusted again if conditions don't change to much.

I finally decided to do an autopsy on the wrecked fuselage of my first NoblARF. After attempting to remove the motor mounts from the fuselage, I decided to not attempt to reinforce the mounts on later planes. I finally destroyed the fuselage sides and the glue on the mounts did not give up. The entire assembly does need to be sealed/fuel proofed.

That's exactly what I did to the remains of my GB Nobler kit after the up line broke, circa 1965. It was a great flying profile!

I am considering installing the fin on the NoblARF #2 with silicon seal to make it a break away unit. That way, if I crash inverted, it should come off as a unit instead of in pieces.

This thing is almost done. I have test run the engine, and will test fly it without the cowling.

The decision to install the fin with silicon seal works well. Even if the fin breaks, the stub can easily be removed for repairs.

The NoblARF #2 now has an OS 35S with an aftermarket ABC P&C assy installed and an XOAR 11-4 prop. The NoblARF #3 has a Brodak 40 installed with a Cyclone 11-4.5 prop.

The OS 35 ABC definitely likes the XOAR 11-4. It pulls like a monster. Even with a muffler. The engine still isn't broken in yet.

I think the leadouts are coming apart. When the flaps are level, the leadouts are uneven. When the flaps are level, the elevators are slightly down.

I'm finishing rebuilding of my son's ARF Nobler and everytime I look at that ship, this is the first thing that comes to my mind... The leadouts...

Getting at the bellcrank might require removing the wing from the fuselage. Not my idea of fun.

After the last crash which broke off the nose, I have a good view of the bellcrank. It seems the entire control system has shifted. I will need to take the remains completely apart and replace the ENTIRE control system, then reassemble it as a profile.
