I sold a Ringmaster RTF and used the money to buy a Vector from Sam's Hobbies. What changes did anyone make to the plane or what needs to be done if anything? Thanks, Terry Bolin. Neosho, MO

Is that the Vector 40 ARF?  I have the Vector 40 ARC that I am going to go with the control system from CLC.  The Brodak 40 is the power slated for it.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

After you get the covering shrunk back down go over all the seams with FletchTite thinned with MEK to brush consistency. I don't like the hinges supplied,they are stiff. My next one will have pinned nylon hinges. I made no changes to the building plans and it flies good.Weight came to 44 oz. with a OS 40 FP on a tongue muffler.

I used Dubro hinges. I also used Clear Ultra Coat covering in many places to help keep the China film stuck down.

I flew my Vector ARFs first 4 flights on Wed 8-15-07. Full pattern on 2nd flight. By the 4th flight with triming done between each flight I was very happy. I have an ARF contest in 10 days & I would enter it if it was tomarrow. As you can tell I think it flys well.

I powered it with a LA 46, APC 11-4 prop.

I'm still hunting for the right spinner.

Post what you think is the right spinner, Pat....so far, none have appeared....

Jack Weston built and flew an electric Vector in Expert last Sunday and it was quite impressive....

Hi Ward....the Chinesemen that do the ARF/ARCs for Brodak seem to convert all American fractional measurements into metrical...and stuff gets lost in translation....I suspect that the spinner issue is that the plans call for a 2"(?) and the Chinesemen make them 50 mm?
Anyhow, the Brodak stuff to date does not take spinners that John sells....

Okay, did anyone see a need to alter the control system? I see the lines looped into the bellcrank with no bushing under the lines, problem there?

Terry,

Is it a nylon BC?  If so, you can get by for a long time, usually, with no bushing on the leadouts.  If it is metal, it needs to be tossed right now, or at least sleeve the leadouts with 1/16th brass tube in a horseshoe style.  I have seen plenty of cases where this type of "sleeve" has been used on nylon BCs also.

I do not have, nor have I seen, the controls in the ARF.

Terry, a buddy and I built a pair of ARF Vectors. They fly great!

I bushed my control horns with 3/32" I.D. brass tubing and also slipped a length of carbon fiber tubing over the main pushrod (Tom Morris style) to prevent bowing. The pushrod with clevis that came in our kits was pure junk. The wire is far to soft to use as a pushrod. Under no circumstances use such a clevis. My clevis fell in half the first time I touched it. I replaced the rear pushrod with 3/32" piano wire. Hope this helps.

Hi Dennis,

Would you mind telling me what engines the two of you are using in your Vectors?  I wanted to use a reworked
40FP but there is a sizable gap between the nose ring and the face of the drive washer. Even with a recessed backplate I have about 3/16 gap. I just hate to have to add to the nose ring but I may have to.

This is a correction to my last post on August 24 referencing a 40FP and spinner backplate spacing. With 1/32" spacing between firewall and backplate bolts I have a spacing of 1/8" between the nose ring and face of the drive washer. Using a CG nylon recessed backplate spinner I now have less than 1/16" spacing.... less than 3/16" spacing as stated before.....big difference!
My problem was the Dubro spinner I was using not sitting against the drive washer due to the locknuts in the spinner backplate........"the main problem was trying to do this late at night".....it's amazing what a clear mind can achieve........lol.   

Still do not have the proper Diameter fit............

Alan, I have a Tom Dixon Magnum GP40 in mine and the other one has an OSFP40. I used 3/32" aluminum pads under the engine lugs which puts the engine slightly out of vertical alignment with the nose. I didn't worry about that or the large spinner gap since these two models are test beds in preparation for building two more Vectors from the built up kit.
