Golden Hawk
« on: February 07, 2013, 08:32:58 AM »
I've always wanted to build a Scientific 'Hollow Log' model.  I never did as a kid.  I thought the "Golden Hawk" looked cool and had a good amount of wing area for one of these models.  I purchased one of the Black Hawk Models kits.  After modifying the wing, stab and vertical fin to replicate the original (thank you, Bill Smith for loaning me an original kit), this is the result.  BTW, the decals were scanned from Bill's kit.

I hope she flies as well as she looks in the pics.   Looks great to me anyway.

It's really great to see one of these. That's the scientific balsa-wing model to which I too was most attracted. Nice work!

Golden Bee, of course!   ;D

I found an original Thimble Drome Golden Bee, virtually unrun, in a box of Cox engines at Art Johnson's table at a swap meet.  This engine has the light anodizing, narrow crankshaft housing, thin wall cylinder and single bybass which characterized that early version.
