XP-56
« on: February 06, 2015, 12:44:56 PM »
The XP-56 was one of three unusual WWII prototypes, the other being the XP-54 and 55.
I have built a XP-54 and it is a good flier. The XP-56 uses a 1/4A  (.020) size motor as far as power comparisons go, but has a 7x3.5 prop, an unlikely choice for a .02 PeeWee.
Battery is a 2 cell. Span is 20 inches. Hopfully it will fly this weekend

That is a very interesting bellcrank linkage.  It must have taken a lot of time to work that out.  Great job.  Good luck with the maiden flight.

Well even with the messy bottom pointed out by Doc, it flies very well. Not a stunter but nice touch and goes. Balance was right on. I need to adjust for more up than down. The small elevators out of the prop blast are ineffective until the take off roll is at high speed. Also it needs a bit of down thrust(I think) since it flies a bit nose high. All in all I a very happy. A bigger one would make an interesting fun or profile scale model.

Isn't that the one the Northrop engineers reffered to as the "ascender" as a play on the engines location?

Hi Chief,

The XP-55 was the "Ascender", very similar looks.

 The "beauty" of electric. :P

Really neat airplane though. I'd love to see a bigger version with an IC .15 or .25. y1
