We are considering making a kit of the Lockheed Electra L-10, the Amelia Earhart plane. Is there any interest in this plane? I( want a full bodied plane and others want a profile. What do you think.

That would be an interesting 1/2A project. I would likely be interested. I would consider either but would likely prefer the full fus....

Is that like the Beech 10? Been thinking that would be an interesting subject. Someone has one on the Airshow circuit now. :)

This was a 10 passenger plane befor the DC 3. Comerical airliner type.

While there has not been much interest here I have cut out two prototypes and have had the draftsman draw up the plans. He brought the plans over today to be checked out and let me tell you THIS IS ONE BEAUTIFUL PLANE. I was watching a movie last week, 49th Parallel, and there it was bombing a German Sub. Later in the same movie they showed it as a passenger plane. Well I am sold and I want to get to the building part.

I would be interested. I have been trying to find a multi engine 1/2a project to tackle and this would be a good one. I would be fine with profile or full fuse.
A friends Grandfather here in town owned one of these back in the day. He had his own personal airport. The Goverment now owns this land and its part of the Air Force Academy.
I had never heard a figure on what one of these planes were priced at. I did find it interesting that when Amelia forgot to put the gear down in Hawaii that the repair bill was $80,000. (some TV show I saw) I guess that means that it was less to fix it rather than buying a new one.
Anyway.. this could easily be my first multi engine 1/2 a project.

Here is the third prototype ready for covering and painting. This one is not flyable it is for the box art. The other two flew great As you can see the plans are not quite ready yet but soon.

Larry that is one good looking model , hope you show in flight photo's when you can . Ray is right about the wing being strong to dampen the those vibrating reed valve 1/2 a's . I know I have a profile B-25 with two Black Widows ,

Here aresome more pictures, covered the wing. This build took 5 hours and it included cutting a new fuselage with an up date that will be in the kit and making some of the parts.
I am no longer able to fly so I have two test pilots in Ohio and Mo. that do that part for me and call in their reports. I do hope that some of you will fly one of these models and send us pictures.

There's one of those parked on the East side of Clover Field, in Santa Monica, or at least, there used to be. It had been pimped out by a televangelist - - overstuffed furniture and mirrors everywhere!

It really looks great Larry, I am guessing that is 1/16" sheet on the wings?

Yes, we started with a symmetrical wing frame and sheeted the top and bottom of the center section with 1/16" to strengthen the wing at the nacelles.
The wing span wound up at 29" and the wing is built and covered with a section of the fuselage built in, it is then added to the rest of the fuselage.

Well, DOC, We will be putting the first ones in boxes next late week and Sam Stuff and Hobbies will get the first ones and we have a new dealer coming on board, Frank's Hobbies, who will get some too. Currently we are looking at list price $38.00. I think that is a good price for this kit with all of the hardware, wheels, covering material and full size plans. the kit will include a history of Amelie Earhart, special box art and a serial number to commemorate this kit release, good for kit collectors. I expect that next month most of our dealers will be calling in orders. I am sure that you will enjoy the kit.

They are very similar. The Beechcraft M-18 (Twin Beech) is more of a civilian Business plane and the Electra L-10 is more of a commercial Passenger plane. The Beech was smaller: 4' shorter, wingspan 8' shorter and the Beech can carry 6 cramped passengers while the Electra handled 10 in relative comfort. The Beech came out 2 years after the Electra.
For us, with a movie "Amelia" about to be released, it is the famous pilot that we hope to capitalize on. We put her history and pictures on the box and on the plans.
