Title: What size is dacron flying line?
Post by: Mike Greb on April 21, 2020, 03:04:25 PM
Does anybody know the size and type of dacron string that has been used for flying lines? I like to use it for thread hinges.  Looks like I can get a lifetime supply for not much more than a couple of bobbins from sig, but I do not know the tread size.

Went to Cox international and bought 10 bobbins for a reasonable price, probably a lifetime supply if I don't misplace them

I’ve been using braided fishing line for what I call sewn hinges. On 1/2A I usually sew the full length of the elevator. Pretty sure I’ve read about some folks using dental floss. My results with braided fishing line is that it stays limber. I’ve had cloth hinges stiffen too much. Not good for 1/2A on 42’ lines with light pull to start with.  I’ll try to add a picture later.

I realize you aren’t new to thread hinges. Wanted to include a picture anyway.

I terminate the ends with a drop of ca. I also pre- drill the holes.
