Title: What is a brand new Cox Pee Wee .020 worth?
Post by: Bob Hunt on December 27, 2024, 01:50:14 PM
I've just had a bit of a windfall and have a brand new Cox Pee Wee .020. It is not in the box, but it for sure has never had fuel in it, nor been started. I have no idea what these are worth these days, and I'm certainly not looking for top dollar. Does anyone here know the value of this engine today?

Thanks -Bob Hunt

Bob, having the box, wrenches and instructions obviously raises the value. Later versions of the engine still carry pretty good merit. Newer versions with the plastic back plate aren't as desired. You have EBAY which several suffer from Igottahaveit disease which generally runs the prices up beyond what most would pay for it. Prices have gone close to $100 whereas some of the other forums generally have a asking price closer to $60 for what your offering. At the same time I have seen these sell closer to $45 and up. If you look at completed listings on EBAY you will understand how there's absolutely no direction as to the why of prices. New in the box examples have been sold under $40 and as high as $140.

Dan Banjock, myself and a few others have been playing around with school yard type freeflight stuff. Locating the Pee Wee seems to be more difficult these days. The other is that there's little to no parts support. Glow plugs and gasket rebuild parts are available. No other parts are currently available. Having participated in many of our swap meets, it's clearly obvious if your in search of the highest dollar value of this engine, EBAY is your best option even with the fees encountered.  Ken

I pretty much agree with Kenneth on his observation. The Pee Wee originally came out in a blister pack and was marketed that way for a long time. The collectors like to buy those for higher prices, like in the $75 and up range and then the eBay crowed can push it higher. All it takes is two guys that are new to the game and got to have it, and at the same time think they will never see another one!! I don't think I have ever seen a PeeWee in the clear plastic domed box. The black and red chip board box came along next and may be most common. I think that the PeeWee production numbers might not be quite as high as the different .049 engines, but they did make a lot of them. And the wrenches do make a difference, as they help make working on them a lot easier. Some guys use the cylinder and piston to repair or rebuild Tee Dee .020 engines, as I think they are the same. I think what part of the country you are in makes a difference also. Demand for them seems to be regional sometimes as far as I can tell from watching auction sales.
   Type at you later,
