Top Flite Mini Contender
« on: March 19, 2015, 01:38:08 AM »
Well this will be my next build. Any thoughts or recommendations before I do this? If I wish to make it super simple I would run the lead outs on top the wing and run them through a raised guide outs attached to the last rib? A trickier way and more conventional look I would run them through the middle of the wing and recover the wing when done. If I do that then I can also install adgustable lead outs from RSM and a weight box on the out board wings last rib also from RSM. I will install soda can metal hinges in the rudder as well as the outer board flaps extension like the Brodaks Stork and baby pathfinder has. I will need to install a larger motor for C/L than for R/C.
Also kicked around the idea of making a set of AC-130 U gunships guns and install them in the inboard side of the body. After that add the Spectre moon emblem to the nose. Oh and put the USAF decals in instead of the NAVY decals... should be a cute gunship when done.

Thank you very much Dane. From what I THINK I know about CL flying... LOL. The wing has equal semetry. Is not a flat bottom and a founded top. That would be great for a trainer but not stunt. Horizontal stabilizer is above the wings center line but still parallel. Only thing out of balance is the inboard wing could be a little longer but its not. So this should be interesting

You could move the wing up in the fuselage toward the center line to even out the vertical CG, and it would probably fly just fine and stunt OK. You could also out in some dihedral in the wing to even out the vertical CG. Just put in enough diherdral to get the leadout guide where itwould be if you moved the whole wing mount up. I wouldn't worry about making the inboard wing any longer, but if you did, 3/8" to 1/2" would be fine.  The SIG Fazer flies just fine as a control line stunt model. The kit instructions tell how to make the conversion. Saw several of them used in the intermidiate and advanced class at contests through the years.
