Title: The TERCEL building thread
Post by: Mike Griffin on January 23, 2017, 02:14:23 PM
This is a thread showing the building progress of Keith Trostle's design, the TERCEL.  I am building the wing first.  The first set of pictures will show the construction of the wing on my Jig.  Feel free to ask questions as the build progresses.

NOTE:  This wing jig was originally sold by Jim Snelson.  Jim no longer is in the business and Jim Lee now makes these jig brackets in case you are interested.

Next set:  Bushed 1/16 Ply Bell Crank.  This comes with the plywood parts in the kit.  It is installed as a suspended bellcrank.  Slide the bell crank to the center of the short piece of 1/8 " music wire which is the pivot post.  Slide a washer on each side of the bellcrank and then slide two pieces of fuel tubing over each end of the music wire to keep the bellcrank centered.  On a 1/2A ship this will work just fine. The top and bottom ends of the fuel tubing are cut so that they rest against the face of the plywood bellcrank mount piece.

Gluing up the plywood flap horn.  The plywood flap horn is laser cut and included in the sheet of plywood parts.  Cut a piece of 1/8 x 1/4" spruce as shown in the below picture to the proper length, mix up some epoxy, take a toothpick and apply some epoxy inside the square hole on the ply horn and mark the center point on the length of the spruce stick, slide the horn over the stick and let dry.  In the next set of pictures I will show you how the horn is glued to the flaps.

Here are more pictures of the build.  You have the parts to build either vertical fin.  I am showing both.

Great job again Mike, of both building and posting.  Is the Tercel one of your kits?  I'd sure like some more info on it and where I could get one.
Hope all is well with you guys,
Steve

Hi Mike,

Just one question...how do you bush those holes in the plywood horns and bellcrank? The bellcrank line holes look like small eyelets, so do you have a press or something? Thanks.

Hi Keith

I do not do that.  Eric Rule at RSM does that and includes it in the kit.  You might drop him a note and ask him how he does it.
