Title: Sullivan gold 008 4 strand lines?
Post by: kevin king on July 18, 2020, 08:24:14 AM
I found some of these Sullivan gold 008 4 strand lines. Has anyone used them? Are they any good for 1/2a? Seem to want to curl up easily. Not sure if I should use them and can't find any mention of them. Thanks in advance.

If you get into the spool a bit and the lines straightens out, they should be OK for a typical sport  or stunt 1/2A. But they will still be a pain in the butt to take care of. That is why lots of guys have gone to the Spectra type fishing lines. I've bought some but have yet to try them out, just too busy. The spool says 400 feet, so you might6 as well see how it handles by trying to make up a set of lines in the typical manor. If it doesn't work and you can't deal with it, then you know you at least tried and then throw the spool away!

Thanks Dan. So these spectra lines are supposed to be better than Sig or Brodak 008 7 strand lines? And you can buy them at a fishing supply store? And is there a size I need to buy for the 1/2a?

I got power pro at Walmart for my 1/2a in the fishing section. It's all the benefits of the .008 steel line's, but they hold up better, are more flexible, and don't get the kinks like the steel lines. I held out forever, but glad I switched on the 1/2a stuff

Hi Dane, is there a line size for the power pro you use?

There have been many threads on the 1/2A board and in the main forums, so do a variety of searches using some different key words. The big thing with the fishing line is to use the proper knots. Going by memory, I think most guys use 20 to 30 pound for 1/2A. There are several brands that go by different names and that is one thing to master when going shopping in person, as some of the packaging for common fishing line looks similar.

I use 20lb because of the line diameter. I believe it's .008 also. Just flew today. Great lines!
I use the power pro from Walmart. They're a dark green, which can be annoying in the grass, but the line is awesome
