Title: Stuntman 23 plans
Post by: Tim Chenevert on January 13, 2018, 08:16:38 PM
I am kinda kicking around with the idea of building one of these. I called my LHS and they did not have the old kit in stock. So I am looking for full size plans to scratch build one. Can anyone suggest  a site for plans? I built one with a Baby Bee when I was a kid, a long time ago, but thinking about a Golden Bee or a Black Widow for power. Thanks, Tim

Brodak sells a set of planes here:

The Brodak 1/2A airplanes are designed for beam mount engines. You will have to adjust the design for a radial mount engine.

Does this count?

I tried the outerzone but did not scale out correctly. I wonder if a print shop could download it off my phone to the correct scale? Brodak uses a beam mount and I wanted to go old school with this one. I am not setup for the Cox .049 so just thinking about it. Tim

Brodak sells a Nylon radial mount for Cox engines. Cut the front of the fuselage to the correct length and bolt it on. It even has grooves for landing gear mounting.

It's the same as the old Midwest mount. Makes for a very clean mount and based on extensive testing, I can assure you it is very sturdy - sturdier than a Stuntman 23 fuselage!

I always keep a supply of the Brodak mounts for the .049 engines on hand for spurious projects.  Like Larry says, already has molded lines for the landing gear.  Has molded tabs for built-in right thrust.  Can be used for either tanked or horseshoe backed Cox engines (or engines sharing same bolt pattern).  I like them, and they'er cheap.  Saves a lot of building time.

That being said, you could just take the Brodak plans and cut the nose back to the desired length, then cut 1/4" balsa cheek blocks and ply firewall as shown on the Outerzone plans.  I've not looked at the Stuntman 23 plans, but other Brodak 1/2A plans show where to cut for radial mounted engines.

The Brodak mount is not the same as the Midwest. I designed it for John while I was at Cox.

You may need to try printing from a PC that has printer drivers that allow for "tile" or "poster" printing. Then play with scale up/down as appropriate.

This is another very similar plane...look for the Stunt Chimp

You can have Staples, etc print PDFs files full size at a reasonable cost. I use the , cheaper than buying ink, and you can electrically send the file to be printed.

The Stunt Chimp is already tiled...print full size, and tape the sheets together. No Financial Interest.

Most print shops and office stores that print posters can do scaling.  Talk to the person before hand and try to show up during a slower part of the day.

Locate key dimensions and have them written down.  A bit of math on the error and a reprint usually is all it takes.

OTOH, order the Brodak kit, and consult the outerzone plans for differences from the original, and trace your parts before building.  Brodak kits tend to be very well done.

Here is a tiled copy of the Stuntman 23. To be printed on 6 'letter' size sheets.
