Scientific Little Bipe

Here are a couple of scratch-built Little Bipes. The white/red one is powered by a Babe Bee, and the yellow one is powered by a Spitzy .045.

The Little Bipe, like most other Scientific models, went through various redesigns. My original one in the fifties had a thicker wing and the fuselage was longer in front of the wing. It was powered by a OK Cub (old case .049). This was before the Babe Bee was invented and I THINK the plans showed an OK Cub. When they redesigned and showed the Babe Bee, the fuselage was shortened (to facilitate balance with a tanked engine I guess) and the wings were thinned. If you compare plans to the advertisement drawing, the tail is also mounted differently.

My question is, has the model's empennage  EVER really looked like the drawing?

Old farts want to know...  ::)

Very nice, George. Yes, the early ones were with thicker sections.

They kept the box art from the original, I think. I will check.  Currell

I'm curious as to how the Spitzy powered one flies. That engine wasn't a powerhouse and did better on sport free flight models.

The Spitzy will work, but with a ton of nitro. And a small prop that will not load the engine, such as a Top Flite 5-3. Currell
