Part A:
For the fun of it I want to build a full bodied 1/2 stunter.
What are some good ones - Oh, be opinionated and tell me the best one.
Are kits available any where?
Part B:
I flew lots of smaller 1/2 As years ago (17-24 inch span)
I see Brodak's Taniger and others listed with much wider wings.
Is there a really good size for stunt capabilities?
What about wing area versus just span?
Part C:
I have older Cox that seem strong still and a coup;le of Norvels I've never run.
Is there really a practical difference?
I hear Norvel is tricky and takes adjusting to but nobody mentions what that means.
Can you let me in on the secret?
Thanks to all

Go check out the listings on th RSM Dist. site. All good flyers.

norvels run great. The initial starts can be problematic. The come from the factory kind of tight.
The .061's are my favoraite
They outperform cox engines at every level.
Some of the experts that use 1/2a airplanes in stunt want a dead nuts even run fron beginning to end.
My norvel's may pick up a few rpm through the run, but I am not an exert level guy so I just deal with it.
think 200-230 suqare inches of wing area for the norvels .061
150- 200 for cox stuff

Take a look at my Cheap Thrill, Model Aviation, December 1998.
-
RSM sells the Pinto, which is basically a miniature Oriental. It is a very good flying 1/2A stunter and might be more suited to a Cox.

The Pinto and Hunter stunter are aerodynamically identical. Both fly well on Tee Dee power, and a Norvel would let you use even longer lines. The Pinto is "Leprechaun Legal" as it is a replica of a Classic model. I would go with the Pinto!
-
The Pinto is a very nice kit. I have it over here and you are welcome to copy the plans. I also built the 1/2A Pathfinder. It builds up almost like an I Beam. You can see it Thursday if you want. I will bring it with me.

Heck there are too many to name them all.
But fully bodied half-A's are well over 25 different models.
And you could most likely scale down just about any full sized .35 stunter to 60% of the original model.
-
Just on a whim without naming the obvious tell us a few of the 25 kits you are talking about. Inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks

ok, let me take a crack and see where this goes.....
1 there is plan set I saw that had i think 5 on it. was like 1/2 genisis, and 4 others do not remember the 4 others on the plan set...
6-pinto
7-that thing by jim thompson(sp) with elipitical wings.(cheap thrill)
8-hunter stunter
9-1/2a pathfinder
any of these could have a full sized body added.
Unless you want it in full kit form ?
10-tercel
11-baby bird fromnov 1986 ama
12-lil bit nov 1987 ama maybe not precision stunt though
12-1/2A stuka stunt sept 1990 ama
13-akro-bat april 1991 ama
14- barecat by baron june 1999 ama maybe not built up enough
15-sunspot
16-cobra 1/2A maybe on the 5 sheet plan...
here are 16 just off the top of my head...
here are14 just from memory. I think the 5 on the plans included a nobler/genisis/

Hey Jim!
Anything that Jim Thomerson designs must be good! He knows what he is about! I have been meaning to build Cheap Thrill for some time. I thought that the AMA had the plans and that put me off as I have had no end of trouble getting plans from them. Even a transatlantic call or two has been necessary to get them into action on previous plans (sigh!).
Regards,
Andrew.

Just to add fuel to this fire other 1/2a models that are good flyers though Not neccessarily full body but making a model full bodies can be simple if you really want it are.
the ringmaster 207. a 207 sq in profile.
there is a 1/2A sized magician. in plans from somebody
I have seen a 1/2a sized shark.
Dumas made I think something called a papoose. maybe not precision but still 1/2a.
Sometimes getting plans can be done buy scaling up from a simple gif if you wish though its not as easy as just blowing it up as lines can become very wide.
-
I thought you meant kits and we were talking about full bodies.
Nice list btw.

The (5) plan set, "Little Legends", are 1/2A profiles. Nobler, USA-1, Genesis, Stiletto, Impact. All use same basic wing with different tips, flaps, tail surfaces and fuselages. s/b easy to make a built up fuse. for them. good flyers w/Norvel .061.

Toadd some more fuel to this fire...
go to to www.controllineplans.com
they have a section on smaller models whis has some different models than the ones Ilisted. Most likely they are a bit older than anything else but it hink much of it originater from the other side of the pond.
Models such as minibunt,chiuhauha,skybolt,xf-1000,and others here.am I getting close to 25 ?

The original post was about full body kits nit plans. Yeah I know there are thousands of plans to be had, but what about kits?
Except for the black hawk stuff ( which is really not full body) there are and were very few full body kits.
And no you are no where near close.
-
...Except for the black hawk stuff ( which is really not full body)...
Nope! Many are hollow logs!

rsm's Pinto and Hunter Stunter are both full-body, full-stunt 1/2As. Look no further!
-
I was under the impression that the Hunter Stunter was a profile kit.
-
Nope, It has the same fuselage as the Pinto, but inverted for an inverted rather than upright engine, and the tips and tail are reshaped. Nice looking plane.
The Sky Sport uses the same wing, but it is a Profile, and has no working flaps.
-
Sig has a new kit. Check it out.
The "Mini-Zilch" is a precision airplane. This ship has been flown many times; inverted flight, inside and outside loops, figure eights, etc., which are easily accomplished with this amazing little model.
Specifications:
Wingspan 20 in.
Wing Area 95 sq. in.
Length 13 in.
Engines .020 - .051 in.3 2-stroke
(diesel or glow)
-
The Scientific Cadet has a box fueslage and built up wing. I stunts well with a Golden Bee or Black Widow.
