A club member has a non revlite 049, that just refuses to run.
With the needle valve ALL the way out the engine will run for a minute or 2, then quit like it overheated. No mater what we cannot richen the thing up at all. The needle is only held in by a few threads, its open that far. Prop is small enough (5x3 rubber duck) so prop load isnt the issue.
The tank seems good and there is not crap in the needle valve. Fuel is the same that I run in my norvels, and it is fine.
The case gets pretty hot, is this a tight bearing situation?
What do we do?
Less compression?

Big mig or ame? You know ame will not draw fuel well. Have you cleaned the needle valve assembly good, make sure nothing is clogging feed hole in the spraybar.
-
will check it. it is an AME,and we flushed out the spraybar, but will look for the squirt hole to be open.

Frequently this problem is the crank has started to gall inside the nose case bearing surface...
If the front of the case looks good ( no standing tall burrs) do not mess with it... if the nose is hosed buy a new case...it is possible to rebush it with oillite bronze but too much trouble for the low cost of these engines
Chuck up the crank and polish the bearing surface
many methods work, I use micro diamond paste on a strip of cloth but many folks just use sandpaper / emery cloth in the 800 and up range with a little oil

The ame will need a bladder or muffler pressure to run correctly.
-
i removed the muff pressure line from my norvel .061 while it was running the other day to see what diff it would make and it quit like i had used a shut off
yours probly got hot because it went lean
