New Model from Bart Kaplinski
« on: July 20, 2010, 05:11:07 PM »
This plane is something to behold.  On Tuesday evening the Knights of the Round Circle and Bart Kaplinski showed up to say hello, Bart was a member of the Knights for many years.   He brought a show and tell model to share with us.  It's a 1/2a version of the Super Aries and the detail defies description.  I took these pictures with my cell phone to share with others.

That is awesome.  I little different camera angle and I would have sworn it was the full size Super Ares.   H^^

Bart is using the AP Wasp with a Holuszko venturi.  The workmanship on this model is unbelievable!  Bart said it is one of the most difficult models he has ever done, and he's broken more parts handling it than he'd care to count.

33" wingspan, I don't know what the area works out to, but if someone has specs for the original, I can easily figure it out.  I am guessing, about 200 sq.in.  Bart expects it to come out 11 ounces, but I bet he does better than that unless he goes crazy on the finish (which he will).   y1

I would love to kit that one but awhile ago I posted plans for sale for a 1/2A (shrunk down & renamed the Garden Snake) version of Steve Wooley's Cobra and only sold one set of plans, so I really don't think there will be enough interest.

Only thing I didn't do was all the size corrections

Thank you and God Bless

Sorry to all for not getting back to this earlier.  Larry asked me to post the pictures I took with my cell phone.  I was afraid to even pick up the model.  Bart finally talked me into picking it up, and it weighs nothing, I really mean nothing!  I always new Bart was a great flier, but I had no idea he was this good at building (Sorry Bart).  Just the area where he blended the AP Wasp muffler into the side of the fuse is something to see.  Hopefully someday I will get see this plane fly.

Hi all, The 1/2A Super Ares was a bit of a pain to build. My 67 year old fingers are not a skinny and nimble as they used to be. I now have the canopy molded and is as close to the original as the plane is. I was in Layton,Utah (15 miles north of Salt Lake City) and spent some great time with Gordan Delaney. John Miller stopped by and we molded the canopy from a pop bottle. The canopy is quite small and it took two canopies to get a good one. Gordan and I go back to 1962 and actually we have quite a story to tell about how we met. That's for another time
Thanks to all for the nice comments and it was surely nice to see the old gang at the knights meeting. If things go well I'll fly the "S" Ares at the Leprechaun events in Calif. next year.

                                    Tailwinds,
                                                   Bart

AARGH!  Bart flying a model that will probably score a minimum of 17 appearance points, not to mention likley fly superbly.  The rest of us are DOOMED!   %^
