Title: My new reed valve engine testor
Post by: Paul Smith on April 09, 2020, 06:43:16 PM
Check this out.  It's a tight-fitting collar designed to fit a reed valve .049 or .020 and be secured with only two c-clamps.

It's laminated from two layers of 1/8" plywood with a 1/16" plywood on the back with cutout for the ears.

So I can cycle five Babe Bees and five PeeWees through the fixture without messing with tiny screws every time.

Back view.

It's painted with 40-year-old K&B epoxy.

The eye bolt has been removed. It was just for painting.

Nice idea. Clean. Not sure the clamps are big enough to provide real safety margin for a Cox .049 though. So you should put the eyebolt back in and attach some 1" chain to it. Maybe wrap that around your truck bumper a few times, or better yet, through the tow hooks. That would pass OSHA as long as you have certs and load test on the chain.

Nifty!

You could run 1/4-20 carriage bolts through the assembly from the back, and put the plywood piece on with wing nuts.  If you wanted to get fancy.

Awesome! I may copy this just so I don't fight lots of littles screws.

Thanks for sharing.

Here's a link to one I built out of some aluminum, very similar concept
