My latest 1/2A project
« on: January 07, 2018, 11:28:41 PM »
So, this is my latest project.  I’ve been teasing the guys over on the CEF with it for a couple of weeks.  I told them if anyone correctly guessed what it will be before I posted fuselage pics, I’d let them do the maiden flight.  Thank goodness no one has guessed yet.  If the CEF member from Finland guessed correctly, shipping would be astronomical.  Thought I’d post an abbreviated thread here for anyone interested.  It’s pic heavy and description light.  You’ll get the idea.

Jim,

I had to look that one up.  I wasn’t familiar with the Anson.

Actually, it’s going to be a ME-109Z using the old Cox foam wings that Cox gave out free when you bought an .049 engine:

I’m working slowly, but the weather’s still lousy here, so no hurry.

Way cool project!  H^^

In my experience (I invented those wings) they will flatten out in time unless you run a lightweight spar out to the tip. 1/16” vertical strip ia all that is needed. Not for strength, just shape retention.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

Larry, I was initially going to run the vertical 1/8 balsa out to the tip, and splice in a horizontal 1/8 balsa stick in place of the upper 1/8 spruce, but discarded that for weight considerations.  Perhaps I'll just run the 1/16" vertical with a 1/16 horizontal to keep it from moving fore/aft.  What do you think?

The horizontal is unnecessary if you smear some slow epoxy on the spar before slipping the wings on. The wings are plenty strong by themselves. Keep the vertical in position and you are good!

Actually, a vertical grain 1/32” spacer would do just fine tack it a few places here and there to keep it in position. Retaining the original airfoil is all you need. Those wings are STRONG!
