Hi there. Just getting back into things after being away for a while and was getting a few birds ready for flight and will mainly be using Dacron or Spiderwire. So I was wanting to make a few handles so I can leave them attached to their respective aircraft. Anyways, I was just wondering if someone out there may have a scan or drawing of a handle they would be willing to share so I may make a few of them for my purpose. Thank you in advance for your time.

I haven't figured out how to put images into this forum yet. But if you check out my website I have some handle pictures that may give you some ideas.

Ok. So got a couple of handles to try out now. Bored tonight and had some coroplast on hand. These are not yet tested, so I do not know the outcome, or what it will be. But they will just be used on a couple of 1/2a planes, Ringmaster, Skyray, Man-Win trainer, etc. If they work, I will be happy. nyways, just thought I'd share.

I like the handles from Blackhawk Models, and they should still be available from Dave Gardner (check flying lines for contact info), or Boone's hobbies listed on the Blackhawk Models web site.

They are lighter than anything else I've tried, and can be easily thickened with Balsa laminations if you desire.

They also make a good reel for winding your lines on, and can be rubber banded to the wing, so you never need to re-adjust the lines once centered.

This is our (Black Hawk Models) handle. It comes with two side grips to improve the grip in larger hands. This handle fits ALL sizes of hands, kids to adult and there are no extra parts to loose when adjusting the line length. You simply wrap both the up and the down line around the center peg. Tha handle is all laser cut plywood. its top is easy to locate by the thumb rest, that helps to study the handle. The handle comes with the side grips and a spool of multi strand control line. Also note that for different line spacing there is plently of area to simply drill new holes.

Thank you for the picture. It looks like a very nice handle, and I do really like the optional side doublers. I will look into it but the darn shipping will probably at least double the cost of the handle, probably more than that.

Here is a 1/2A handle that I use. The handle design belongs to Bob Cursan, who passed away last year.
The attached picture should explain it. The line threads through the handle and is secured with a rubber washer. Each end is terminated with a clip. Very easy to adjust for neutral, and no need to worry trying to get spectra lines even. Cut the handle to fit your hand.

The Goldberg handle was similar in concept, but Bob’s design is more secure

When I finally converted to a hard point handle for my larger planes, I was so impressed with the handling that I decided to use the same system for my 1/2A models.

I converted a still available Sig 1/2A handle into a Hard-point by simply drilling a series of holes on the front bar of the handle as shown in the photo. I bend the clips in various lengths out of .025 music wire. The handle response is fully adjustable and the control very precise.

This set-up works and feels real good. The handle is very light (16 grams, .6 oz. with clips).

Any update on the suitability of the .025" wire over time?

Check out my Exponential 1/2A handle at RSM distribution. It really smooths out 1/2A Flying, and has a huge range of adjustment.

I use Larry's handles on 1/2A - Pathfinders, Baby Clowns, RM302, Barecat and future Baby Barnstormer. Have no reason to change!
