Title: Mitsubishi Hamp
Post by: Mark Mc on May 21, 2023, 04:51:32 PM
I started this project a couple of years ago, back before I moved from Oregon.  I built it and covered the wings and fuse, but was not too excited about cutting out the windshield panels and the fin insignia.  Then we suddenly decided to move (two weeks from deciding to move and when we were out of our house).

It sat in a box until about eight or nine months ago, but I still was not enthused about finishing the trim.  But, knowing that Doug Hart of Willie Nillies fame would be at S.M.A.L.L., I decided to finish it off since I used a Willie Nillies Baby Ringmaster wing kit to build this around.  I picked the Mitsubishi A6M3 Hamp because it’s a late in the war Zero with clipped wings, so a better fit for the BRM wing.

I did a little more experimenting to find what I thought was the best way to use the Cricut cutter to cut Monokote.  When I was satisfied, I made up files for the cockpit windows and the fin numbers.  Came out pretty good, I think.

I wanted this done so that I’d have my Pacific Theater set.  Here you can see the Zero with the Wildcat I also built with a WN BRM wing kit.  I’m going to pull the landing gear off the Wildcat, since landing gear on a 1/2A is more of a liability anyway.
