Long term project
« on: January 11, 2019, 04:24:19 PM »
Over on the Cox forum, the subject of the Little Legends came up while we were discussing the new balsa Hyper Viper from Southridge CNC.  I pulled out my plans to talk about them, and decided to start working on them slowly.  I grabbed a pencil, ruler, roll of tape, and some tracing paper and traced out the wing ribs, tail surfaces, and fuselages for all five planes.
Being the impetuous person that I am, I think I'll start out and make up five full kits for the planes.  I have enough material on hand to make two, maybe three planes, but I think I'll just go and buy enough wood/accessories to build all five kits.  I have too many projects going right now to start building, but I'll at least get the Little Legends going, that way they are in the queue.

That's the spirit!

If you want something done, give it to a busy person!

Are these going to be profiles, or am I looking at internal doubler patterns?

Dave,

They're going to be profiles per the plans.  The doubler patterns are for the 1/32" ply doublers and the 1/4" inboard tripplers per the plans.  Although these could easily be done as full fuse 1/2A's if one wanted to.  I'm going to be doing plenty of work on these as-is.  No need to make more by doing full fuse variants.

McMark,

Got it. I just couldn't remember if the Legends were full fuse or not.

I cobbled together some plans for a Baby T-Bird. That one is a full fuse job. It looked like a lot of work, so I never started.  I've seen Larry Renger with a Baby Nobler that was pretty cute. Not sure he got the flying qualities sorted, though.

Good luck with yours.

The Baby Nobler was built by Don Butman. The controls are way too quick. I did the finish.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

I'm looking forward to when Walter brings out the kits one day.

Hmmm. I thought I remembered an issue with the Baby Nobler. Now, don't take this the wrong way, Larry, but....do you want to try my magic handle?  This is a super-custom racing handle with one-finger-width line spacing. It's got no exponential or nothing scientific like that, but it has tamed some vicious Mouse racers. Anyway, you were good enough to loan me a handle before, and a diesel head, and a monoline control unit, and a....well, you get the idea here. No wait--you gave me the monoline unit!

PS--The monoline trainer is done and ready to go. The aspiring perspiring pilot, not so much. Trying to get up my nerve. Will probably try it over the grass at Whittier. Maybe after it rains more and the grass is a couple of feet high...? Better yet would be to get Joe to come out and test fly it for me.
